We all know there has been much love and hate directed towards the three new stone types - diorite and granite in particular. I am working on a build on an smp server that uses diorite as a main building block. With is I use acacia logs and quarts. I think it works because the diorite ties the gray acacia and the white quarts together.
IMO diorite is better used as a secondary building material. I don't have any screenshots to show, but it also makes a good block to place redstone circuits on.
I've used Polished Diorite with a combination of Polished Andesite for an exterior wall design. I used the Polished Diorite as the "wall" block with the Polished Andesite as the top border and bottom border. I used a combination of slab and stair bricks for the roof.
Your build is awesome. Love the combinations you used all work very well. Love the touch of lights underneath the stained glass - very classy.

Now that, that looks awesome. I do have to congratulate you for making an awesome and cool looking build.

The polished diorite/andesite/granite have a very modern look to me, like industrial tiles, so I like them for waterways (and the the fact that the blocks are so distinct helps me count 8 tiles for water flow.)
I agree that polished or unpolished diorite looks great with redstone.
Polished diorite is great for marking points of interest in a mine (intersections, the center of walkways.)
Diorite is a great block, mainly for large, detailed builds. If i know how to build good, and if I had any good inspiration (that I can actually build) i would put it to good use
That sounds really good. I wish I was clever enough to come up with that. Also, one of my favorite combinations are brick, quartz, granite, and diorite.
Your build, in general, looks good. I can't say I'm much a fan of quartz, but you seemed to handle it well. The acacia logs give it a nice sense of depth, and are indeed complemented by the raw diorite, which in turn complements the polished stone.
The three new stones are most definitely a valid building material, in my experience. I've taken it upon myself on our private-ish server to construct a citadel almost entirely out of the new stones, and I think it's pretty good so far. The lack of slabs and stairs is seriously cramping my style, though. >.>
Take note that it is indeed unfinished. The walls are incomplete, the inside is unfinished(If you guys have suggestions for a floor pattern for a ~30x30 uneven space, I'd appreciate it.), and the upper level is absent entirely.

I've actually found that unpolished Diorite goes well as a secondary block to Prismarine (and no, I did not get this idea from an Etho video). Combine all with Nether Brick, and you've got it looking pretty snazzy.
I honestly don't know why so many people hate the new stone types, I like them. Could they use more uses? Yeah. Are they completely useless and annoying? No, nothing in Minecraft is.

I tend to use it as a bander, that is when I'm doing a repeated pattern I use Diorite to separate one pattern from the other so that it doesn't look samey. Because of how it stands out, so long as I don't do anything irregular, it looks good.

On a note on the other side of whatever object I'm taking notes on; that build looks awesome. Good job.
I think this build is coming along nicely and will post back here when it is completed!
