My first reaction? Well, when the update was released, we had made a backup of the map, so we were going to TNT everything. We had all the TNT lined up, and were ready to go. It was a fuse, and we were lining it as we went. Suddenly we heard a SNAP, and a super creeper ran up, and lit the fuse for us. Best fireworks ever!
Standing atop my half-finished, semi-large wooden watchtower (that has like 6 open air platforms that progressively get wider, culminating in the final, largest platform at the skylimit) minding my own business, enjoying the view. And then the rain starts to fall and I look up and smile. Top of the world, rain falling across the land. Tranquility at its best
Holy crap, lightning on my first rainstorm (hit a couple of cows standing close together)? Thats awesome!... wait.... Lightning sets things on fire. LIGHTNING sets WOOD on FIRE. LIGHTNING SETS MULTILEVELED WOODEN WATCHTOWER ON FIRE.
I climbed down the ladder as fast as I could (getting from skylimit to sealevel while in a rush is the most agonizing wait if you're using ladders), I grabbed a few essentials - coal, some saplings, a bit of dirt - and freaking SPRINTED from my house, headed as swift as I could for the desert. If I was nowhere near my house, it wouldn't thunderstorm there, right? Since thunderstorms don't care whether you're near the surface or not, and since I would quit minecraft for like 2 weeks (no one can quit it forever) if I resurfaced and my tower wasn't there, I have decided to insure my house from destruction by abandoning it. It and my 7 dogs. And my diamond mine.
So now I'm in the desert, busying myself with building a sandstone pyramid that extends as far underground as it does aboveground. I will return to my homeland when notch implements lightning rods. If that never happens, I can still risk venturing close enough to seen the half-finished watchtower from afar.

While true Banana can't cry, nor can Banana wear pants.
One thing Banana can always do,
Is the Great Banana Dance...
No blood, ice cold,
But Banana can dance,
Because Banana has a soul
I didn't play Minecraft at all for a good week or so after 1.5 came out. Was busy with other things. Kind of forgot about thunderstorms and weather and stuff.
I eventually logged in and was down in my mine, fixing my ladders, when I got hit with a sudden lagspike. When the lag cleared up there was this faint rumbling sounds. I kind of thought my computer was bugging out on me.
I climbed back up to the surface, opened the front door, and my first thought was WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?
Then I remembered about the weather. Felt kind of stupid.
