In that one design with the hidden rails, won't you suffocate?
I like the idea of a bridge having a footpath and minecart tracks, though. Why hide the tracks when you can show them off?
No, you won't suffocate because its a half block and you can suffocate in a single half block. And hiding them is good because in SMP people won't be able to drop items on the track or stand on the track. So for SMP purposes its probably better.

Hey guys, i seem to be having troble with Bridge supports.
these are the supports i want to replicate:
And this is the Bridge i want to put them on:
Could you guys help?
That would look really nice, but I don't think you have enough room for supports like that.
I too like a bridge or two, but i can't build one just for the sake of building one. I need to have a reason to build one. Too often i'll spot a good spot for a bridge, but it'll be a place that i'll never be traversing enough to justify the build time. Anywho here's an over/under, walkway/railway bridge i made for my floating island fortress. A tension bridge in more ways than one, one might say..
I just came up with a pretty nice design for a bridge with hidden rails and made a video about it:
That's pretty cool, and I like how you used that glitch. I'm trying something similar, on a world that may be turned into a server for me and some friends (IRL only, sorry.) I'm trying to avoid the glitches for a more life-like look, and because I have the resources, I'm simply lowering the track down one, to give head room. It's basically a tunnel with windows on the sides, and it still keeps cart riders from ramming into pedestrians.
I'll get a few screenies up in a bit, after its grafted onto my friends map(MCedit comes in a handy sometimes).
