Despite being a relatively small addition, when it's raining, the sound of it outside my shelter, looking out a window, it really does add a great feel to the game. it just adds to the experience as a whole, , I think it would be cool if he added a similar water crashing sound to water falls, rather than the running water sound. I can see how that'd be difficult though, because then any running water would make that sound.
I also hope he adds birds eventually or atleast the sound of birds after it stops raining, because just the rain alone really adds tot he ambiance of the game.
Yeah, I've always enjoyed ambient sounds in video games. Whether it be crickets chirping, or water dripping, or anything else, it just makes the game a lot more enjoyable.
I haven't had rain in my game yet, but from videos I've seen, it does seem to add well to the ambience. Except those darned powered creepers. I hope to nevr get one of those

I agree. IRL I love the sound of rain (We get quite a bit in Seattle), wind, and especially both during storms, and thunder just sounds amazing (in both real life and Minecraft). I have yet to figure out why people find this type of ambiance annoying...

that'd be great too, wind blowing during storms, or while in really vast caves. the rain has fueled my desire for more ambiance D:
I was hoping for a very rare molten wasteland biome. The land would have tons of rock as well as some surface obsidian, plenty of lava, and the surface blocks will be under ash. The dirt under the ash will not be grass. When you enter the chunks, you can hear the molten noises of the lava churning and rock shifting below you.

Maybe that would go hand in hand with volcanic eruptions? Like, volcanoes generate when you spawn, with a random ticker until they erupt? After the eruption, it turns the surrounding area into that.
It all really helps with immersion. Haven't had thunder or snow yet, though. I'm excited for the snow, must make it feel like winter time.
The snow is awesome! I really like how it puts snow back on the ground, and causes ice to spread to nearby water blocks. My lawn had like no snow on it and most of the lake had melted because of creepers before the update
I hate all ambiance in Minecraft. Why? Cuz they scare me so bad. I'm talking about the ambience that appears in dark places...They let me know that I'm near something evil...
We need crisp wind on the top of hills and cliffs. We need a whooshing breeze in forests. We need crickets/frogs at night in certain biomes...Maybe even have howling at night in deserts! We need to diversify the "Thunderstorm"; Tsunami with flooding in marsh biomes, sandstorms in the desert, whiteout blizzards in the arctic, maybe even tornadoes in the savannah (Wouldn't do much damage to any house over dirt)!
Sound and weather makes worlds come alive, and Minecraft needs a lot more of it. I got my rain fix, and I want more!

I love the sound, the only problem is you have to have "Fancy" on GRAPHICS option to hear the sound.
Now, my laptop could handle fancy on normal except there's some kind of weird bug I have(have had since Alpha) that I get those broken polygon blades when the game is set on Fancy :sad.gif:
So I wish that Fancy sound effects were independent an option for Fancy graphics

We do have the nether... maybe this could be used to make it better?

It has no atmosphere to it, more sounds like rain would really add to the game.
