Well since 1.8 ive been working on a city for 1.8. ill show you my progress but im still gathering materials. i do have a question: Is it possible to build a complete city in survival? Would you build a city in survival? Why?
Well i feel that when you build in genral in survival you feel that you accomplish something. So put your anser to my question below

Ive been building one in survival. Its as good as the in game cities though. Its not all that hard but its only good for villagers to live in. not sure if you were meaning citayz with towerz and such but those would be possible as well.

Yes i was talking about the cities with towers and shops and farms
I built a city from a villlage. Thing turned into a few cobblestone apartment buildings stuffed with villagers, only a few of the original buildings stayed intact and a couple golems usually roamed the streets.

That is actually my dream and goal in every minecraft game I start playing.
Like you said, when you build things in survival, it feels like you've accomplished something. It's a pretty nice feeling: "Look at that. Can you see it? I BUILT THAT! ALL BY MYSELF! ME AND THESE HANDS OF MINE!"
Building a city would be marvelous. I like building castles and flying/floating things.

I've just started a new hardcore game. I got incredibly lucky with the random seed, all things considered. Sheep, water, trees, sand, minerals... I'm pretty sure it's the perfect seed for my plans. I only hope I can survive long enough to achieve my goals.
Also, I always play "vegetarian", so it adds a lot of difficulty. If you're interested in checking it out: -1526719817474992803

i may do that... Challenge accpet
But wont your hinger go down quicker in hardcore mode so you wpuld need wheat right as you spawn
Already did this in survival mp server, took me fair 500+hours to get it into shape I really wanted. Now remember not nearly all the time was building.
Now I am building a lot bigger stuff in creative sp and already in a week done city bigger than the survival one. Look into my signature for link, if interested in. And also feel free to private message me, if you wanna talk about making cities!
I did build a city some time ago, no pics, no world save, so no proof. But it was a medieval city, around 20 houses, windmill, armory, small city hall, wheat field in the city... All surrounded by the walls, also couple (I don't remember, around 5) houses outside the city walls, more farms and a small dock by the river... My villagers multiplied in time, but for some reason all of them gathered in one house only - I dunno, 40 of them?
All in survival, normal difficulty. So no, it's not THAT difficult.
No no you missed my ponit i meant a city like you you build in creative but in survival. don't tell me it was just cobblestone building

Keep'em coming! That is some impressive builds. I've tried to complete some towns, but as some others have mentioned, it takes a great deal of patience and dedication. Props for having the motivation to press forward!

me and some friends of mine built a small city in creative and the mall alone took us one month to build with just empty units, normally for survival i'm finding clay and smelting bricks like mad because I like the look of brick. even though it was done in creative I could link either the live map or pics if anyone is interested.

Yep. I get apples as soon as possible, and then I start a wheat farm immediately after I get my first wooden tools. I get hurt a lot due to hunger, and I nearly die in the beginning, but it's worth it ;X

It's more like two small towns, and it's more medieval themed, and my gosh I wish I cared more about good looking roofs. It was all built in survival on normal difficulty, and I switched to creative when I was finished. I built it for this challenge:
