Weather SHOULD make new flowers spawn(maybe trees but that would be annoying). Flowers are a pain to find and they can't be farmed(unless you use a mod).

I totally agree with you here, ever since flowers became useful they are a valuable resource.
Water should create a layer of 'mud' on exposed, non-grassy dirt tiles. Mud (basically brown snow) would be slippery like ice and can be harvested by using a shovel. Crafting 3x3 mudballs in a grid creates a block of quicksand.
Quicksand looks exactly like dirt, but acts like a really dense liquid. When placed down, it will cause players walking on top of it to slowly sink into the block, and choke to death if they don't climb out. It can also be used to make fake walls that people can walk through.
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. As an added thing, how about instead of throwing mudballs, mud can be placed on a block, making that block slippery, even if it is deep underground in your base.
I'm excited! I miss snow. However, I hope they add an option to turn it off or at least turn it down. I kind of love-hated snow because it looked awesome but it tended to make my computer lag.
We have tons of lighted walkways, tower tops, bridges etc, I play for fun, if you want to walk around relighting a hundred plus torches after it rains, and you call that fun, good for you.
Last time I checked the dev team was talking about making torchs re out requiring you to relight them.
Said something about Lanterns being lit forever. I don't think Lanterns would go out because of rain would they ?
IMHO Make torches have health. Rain reduces their health. Health = 0 means torch goes out.
That way they could put in a decay health function on the torches. So they would eventually go out.
I never got to experience snow or rain so I welcome this as long as it doesnt take up too many resources. I can easily see crashes becoming MUCH more comon due to all the extra particle effects. Notch should make rain and snow less crowded at least.
Also found this most interesting: @TheFedora You can't see sun/moon/stars while it's raining, and days are one level darker.
Hostile mobs could now spawn in the daytime with these. Watch out for the underside of trees!
Not really, unless you have thousands of torches outside, for some godforsaken reason I can't think of. I only have 8 torches outside...
How about keeping mobs from spawning?
Do you really think I would like to have all of those torches begind deactivated/destroyed by some random event? (AND this image is quite old alredy, I have about X4 more torches outside alredy).
NOT so much the fact that monsters will spawn there (Its annoying but I can live with it), its more of the fact that I would have to re-activate them EVERY SINGLE TIME A RANDOM EVENT HAPPENS. Not hard, just annoying.
Cry about it. This is survival, It makes perfect sense that rain would put out torches. If you have a problem with having to survive in survival go play creative.
Want realism? Then only a torrential downpour would put out torches. Depending on their fuel and 'wick' materials torches can withstand quite a bit of rain before sputtering out. If implemented it should reflect reality to make it a real 'survival' scenario. Also, dynamic weather patterns are pudding when we need meat and potatoes. I absolutely want my dessert but I can wait until the infrastructure is made more bulletproof.

Hell yeah! While Jeb added the silly dogs, Notch goes and adds the weather. This is much more exciting because if Notch can get this feature completed, we can expect seasons in the short future (maybe). Also, it might making playing during the day more dangerous (which is always fun) with monsters not dying in the day.
My only hope is that Notch wont stop adding new stuff to the update.
Yeah, no. Expect lag, expect lag on EVERY update. Notch might optimize the code this update. But when new stuff is added, there is always something that goes wrong. Notch should take out dogs out of the game till the game is optimized. That would fix the current lag problem.

*EDIT* he just tweeted hes adding Lighting! Awesome!

Like cave diving isnt scary enough add thunder and a creeper peering at u through the dark
Redstone torches are just glowing rock though, so that makes no sense at all :B

If you look at http://www.Twitter.com/Notch, one of his tweets says this: "@SeriousBismuth1 ayup". That's a reply to someone asking about lightning.

I've wanted weather changes for a long time, and it's finally happening.

Weather is going to add a whole new feel to minecraft, and it's going to be awesome.
