I am surprised everbody is saying its crap because it dosent boost as well as the booster glitch.
This is a pretty powerful cart managing tool. Before this update came out I was thinking of ways to make signal track that stops carts if the signal is red.
I mean the booster cant be turned on and off with a current. Even if it could it wouldnt make the cart stop or be very useful.
Think of the things you could do O.O
For example this video was back when their were no power rails or detector rails or even repeaters:
Imagine how much better and more compact the design would be with the booster rail and the detector rail!
In short: Yes the power rail isnt as powerful as the booster glitch but it sure can do alot more things!

Ummmmm......... Thats got nothing to do with the post. How dose having the update for 24 hours make people suddenly stop hating it?
Your logic is flawed.

well technically you can do all those things with a booster, but the new block is far more compact.
Really? You cant really break with a booster and have it active via redstone. But yea that is another thing people are refusing to accept that its compact :/

I can configure a booster to act as a brake. I'm on the fence really. I would like to see the powered track as a compliment to boosters, not as a replacement.

e.e. Your misunderstanding me. Not many hate it, but we need to experiment first, and see what we can DO with this stuff. I mean, this thread is like saying 'hey, guys, i found this cool, obvious stuff! :D'
Seriously? wait a bit before freaking out over something that hasn't been up 24 hours. It's not like we can't/don't know.

...and powered by redstone.
It's the one thing that seems to continually get overlooked, and because it can be linked with redstone there is a ton of potential with the booster system as it currently is. The rail detectors enhance this concept even further.
This is less of a "Speed" thing and more of a "Utility" thing.
Sure, traditional boosters are faster (or at least, faster for a longer period of time) at the expense of more room (though with less resource cost) but with this update you can start using minecarts in your circuitry (as opposed to using circuitry WITH your minecarts) There are benefits to both booster types; depending on your usage.
The powered rail is laid down just as the usual unpowered rail is. This includes up inclines. It's powered and will boost a cart up a slope. The most significant use for the powered rails will be in space limited and slope situations. Such as in rollercoasters. The powered rail is perfect for acting as the chain drive that carries a cart to the top of a coaster tower. Without the bulky and unsightly boosters.
Pragmatically it's slow and underpowered compared to a door booster, so for utilitarian uses it's minimally functional. Wait for the redstone engineers to tinker though. If the detector rail could ditermine if a cart was full or empty it would be more useful.
BUT. from an aesthetic viewpoint, not having unsightly huge booster contraptions and random dips in the track path will greatly enhance the 'scenic tour' railways.
And without mods too, so no need to ever worry about compatibility or updates breaking the railway.
My biggest complaints are that the powered rails won't start a cart from a standstill, (but i'm anticipating that the pistons will solve that) and that the detector is either all or nothing, and not able to differentiate between rider and non-rider carts. (and if jeb is going to tinker with them, add the ability to tell whether it;s empty, passenger, or cargo carts.)
I'd rather have them than not. Even if they aren't exactly what I needed.
I don't see your point. I mean, yes, the new boosters are neat. Are they better than the old boosters? Certainly not. Yes, you can slow carts down, and they look better, but think about it material wise. Also, who says that they have to be better than the old boosters? They will not serve as a replacement, but a supplement. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Actually, with boosters, you can do something to that effect, but it takes up about an 11x11 square.
But it's much more convenient with Powered Rails, as, if you include the redstone wiring, it only takes up a few squares.
Agreed dude. I love this idea, i mean its not like it even broke boosters! In fact i think they can both be used. I think ill use a booster system to hold a minecart and set it up to go on a button, and the powered rail to keep it going.
Have fun finding all that gold (if you don't cheat of course).
Simple as that.
so, method that was not intended for the game is > than implemented method??? wait...you are not so good at this whole beta-testing thing, are you?
"BhuT In THe BEta MY BulEts COUlD go ThrOo WaLZ!!!! Y NoT NAO?!?!"
anyway, 100 real boosters is not really that much late-game...I made 60 of them and refitted my lenthy, but not too complex rail system with them and still have 20-something left over...is it as fast the whole way? no...does it work JUST FKING FINE? yup :happy.gif:

Notch has, on many occasions, acknowledged glitches and unintended systems. For example, the Redstone Obsidian generator was acknowledged by Notch and I've never known him to patch a glitch that adds new, fun gameplay elements.
Although I prefer boosters, I can not argue that Powered Rails have their many uses too.

Please read the wiki. One piece of track boosts a cart 128 blocks. Thats compact and efficient. Also, when the game is stopped and reloaded, carts maintain their momentum, I believe. Much, much better than regular boosters. There is one problem though, they don't boost you're cart unless it's already moving. This can be easily worked around though. You can place an unpowered track on a slope and have a second booster track a few blocks ahead on flat ground. Unpowered, it keeps the minecart on the slople, due to its braking ability. When powered, it releases the cart, possibly boosts it, then the other track boosts it a few blocks down.

I booster = 100 gold boosters

I just hate you can't boost from a dead stop without a block behind you.
