The three main bases in my world are Desert, Mesa and Ice Spikes Biome. None of them get rain which I like, and the snow in the Ice Spikes Biome is quite relaxing. The Mesa is great for all the clay you can access.
Plains biomes. There is a much higher abundance of caves, grass for seeds, animals for farming and food, villages with blacksmiths for good supplies. Plains are also flat with relatively large high ground areas ideal for fortifications.

I am the biggest Minecraft nerd in the group. I've spent so long researching the game and looking at the code that I will know almost anything about the behavior of the game. As a derivative of that, I am also a great authority on how to play the game. So if you're the biggest noob on the server, given time and practice, I can help you get better than the admin. My IGN is ArcFighter300.

I really find the most abundant resources for survival in the Plains biome. On that note however I prefer a place that is also very close to a bordering biome of another type such as Flower Forest, Taiga, Jungle, Swamp, or (my favorite) Extreme Hills. ANY other biome which is interesting to you would do but I certainly like to build my "home" or "base" within a short walk to one of these other types of terrain.
When you have the abundant resources of Plains and add a nearby source of unique or interesting scenery and more exotic resources (different types of trees, vines, spectacularly tall and ore rich mountains, beaches or water/lava falls and pools, etc.) it really shows of the most entertaining elements of the game for me. It's also fun to explore something besides your home turf without having to prepare for a globe-trotting trek to the hinter lands!
