Alrighty, i have been experimenting for a while, trying to make some new traps for smp. After seeing by etho, i discovered you could use the [Torch, Repeater - block- redstone] trick to make some new traps! :smile.gif: This trick is that a repeater travels a current through one block. So if you place a block between a powered repeater, and a Redstone wire, it powers it!
Here is one i came up with:
Here is the whole idea of it. You can't place blocks on furnaces, but obviously you can on other blocks. There is one block there which you are able to place blocks on. Hmm.. how could you get up to the treasure? A stair of somesorts?
You cannot make a staircase, as it doesn't allow you to place blocks on furnaces. Hmm.... SAND! you could drop it down the hole there! GENIUS! It would lead right up to the top!
Hmm.. no pressure plates or anything that could set anything off... must be safe :biggrin.gif:
Here is how it works. It uses the repeater, block, redstone method. The player drops sand down the hole, it connects the circuit, allowing current to travel up to the top. This sets off tnt, which has two signs of the side of it. Above these signs are sand, and on top of the sand, there is lava!
When the person drops the sand down, it sets off the tnt, sending all the sand down, which then sends lava down to wherever you want! it could trap the person in the room, or kill them if you like.
Unfortunately, i couldn't get screenies of the final part, because of some fails on the computers part. Anyways.. thoughts?
Good idea. Its impractical to employ though. Some people would place a block, others would attempt to mine away a block above that furnace (is that sand?) I'm sure a player could jump that gap and bypass it. Correct me if i'm wrong.
theres bedrock behind the furnaces, and they cant jump the gap. The reason the furnaces are there are to stop people placing blocks. If they place a block on that one spot, they still cannot reach it.
It's a good observation that repeaters can be used a block detectors. Personally, I think it would be very useful to tell when a block is removed.
Set up a corridor like:
[]
(Front view, = repeater, = Redstone dust)
Then, you can tell when someone removes a block to get in. No-one's really going to go through an entire (obviously booby-trapped) house normally.
Finally, I can defeat your house this way: Place a block of dirt outside the front door. Build off of that, all the way up to the chest.
I didnt come up with this concept, look in the video i linked. And, that is only the end part, you would make a full corridor/room this way, so they cannot place blocks, i just wanted to show the concept.
And this part wouldnt be a house on its own, it would be part of a house. Bit suspicious otherwise.. ahah
Mine furnace, place block where furnace was. Now you can build.
ALT: place block where you would place sand. Place more blocks from that. Destroy original block while standing close by (in case of wood pressure plate at bottom of shaft). Build back from where you started.

you cant do that, because you cant get up onto it.
you cant jump up onto it without placing a block underneith, which you can't because of the furnaces. And you cant look under the block you placed, without destroying the furnace underneath, which could have lava there.
If you have a schematic file of this, I'd love to load it into my test server and find a way to bust it. Or the entire map will work, too..

If you're callin' about the Mobtalker scripts, I no longer have access to them.
However, it's been getting tempting lately to put together a modpack that includes CustomNPCs, so I could definitely work in something along the same themes in the modpack's quests. Feel free to give suggestions of mods that promote an experience which minimizes mining grind in favor of exploration. I'll likely have to include Grimorie of Gaia to provide good models (No I'm not gonna directly change the default mob models)

Massive castle, I think so! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK6vNxQyqDM

Awesome win :biggrin.gif:.
what i said up in my previous post. it would be at the end of a furnace corridor or room. ahah
Ok, well how do you place the sand then? If you can place sand you can place cobble...place cobble and just build off of it instead of the furnaces.

well in this design, yes, but you could simply have many layers of furnaces, or have lava or something behind them. plenty of ways to get around that.
you cant do that, because you cant get up onto it.

sorry, i have neither.. computer issues :/aha
its pretty easy to build thoughhh
if you place cobble on that spot, how do you think you can get up? you cant. if you place sand, it stacks up so you can get up. try it out

mmmm true, i could make it so even if they do get up i can set up an arrow trap, as they have to destroy the block above the chest.
