I have an awesome idea to contribute to this, I hope I can receive credit for this because I'm not sure its ever been suggested although I wouldn't be surprised.
You should be able to take the Squid Ink and craft it with a Feather, then you have a Pen and combine that with a book and you can write whatever you want in them, then you combine the book with a bookshelf and it puts that book into it, that way each bookshelf contains one book to read, like in the old games.(Pokemon!"
That kind of idea is exactly what inspired me to make this project. I however have already found a mod that makes things a little easier than that. Books are crafted as normal, and once made can be written in. These are stored in bookshelves which can store up to sixteen books each. The crafting recipe for bookshelves has been alter slightly so that now it's:

Which makes an empty bookshelf like those in the pictures I posted.

The library should be separated by Dewey Decimal System, except relating with Minecraft. So the Minecraft Library System.
000 - General Minecraft Information
100 - Advanced Minecraft Information
200 - Mining
300 - Architecture
400 - Redstone
500 - War and Combat
600 - Minecraft Fiction
700 - General Fiction
800 - General Non-Fiction
900 - Compendium of Significant Minecraft Creations
If this were to be implemented, there would be about 700 books per section on average, and some sections would have more books, some less. Like the Dewey System, the 10 categories would be further divided into divisions. This would make it much easier to find actual books within the library. So if you wanted to find a book about Herobrine for example, instead of trying to look for things alphabetically, in which case the books might be scattered around, you go to the 500 section, Minecraft Fiction, and 520, Minecraft Lore.

All the wood was collected legit along with the stone. But as of right now I don't even have any reeds, but once I find some I'm gonna need a good way to mass farm them.

That's about whats been suggested so far, but I would like to say I do not want to put any real world published material in here. There could be legal issues with me writing them down and then putting them out there for the whole world to read for free.(ignoring that they paid for minecraft)

Been doing a bit more work tonight. Second floor is completed, third (kinda) started. Now to the pictures:

Now I have a question for you guys. The cobblestone inside the main portion of the library looks rather ugly, and I'm going to replace it with colored cloth, but I'm not sure what color to use. Please post any suggestions you have and I'll look through, if something seems to be coming up alot I'll try it out.

Problem is, it doesn't quite work that way. Whatever you send me I need to transcribe into a book inside minecraft which will then be stored on one of the shelves inside the library. IDK, I was thinking I'd have to do most of the transcribing. However now that I realize that someone could send me a copy of the book I think I'll do it that way. The way I intend to run the submissions now is simple. To get something in, download the mod, hack yourself some books and write the story, and send me the file for the books. I can then create a new, blank book inside the library and paste in their story. From there I can sort it into the collection, and now and again update the save. Will be updating the OP soon.

Sorry no updates recently, I think I'll be taking a short hiatus. I started this project during spring break when I had plenty of time to commit to it, but now that school has started back up, I just don't have the time. I will be resuming this project once school gets out for the summer, but until then all I'll be doing is watching the thread.

My hiatus might be ending sooner than I thought, free time seems to have cropped up suddenly. I may begin updating again, however this will be infrequent and most likely only on the weekends. Updates will be posted here and on my blog. (Link in OP)
