Say I tame a horse and leave it in a stable made from plain wood fencing. If a spider crawled up the fence and into the stable and it was at night, could the spiders start attacking the horse? Or does it not target animals? Just wondering if my stable should be a whole building or if it can just be a simple fence.
I get the feeling that you're a little new to Minecraft.
As a general rule, hostile mobs do not attack peaceful mobs, although there are exceptions. Wolves will attack Sheep, Ocelots will attack Chickens, and Zombies will attack villagers. In addition, it's quite possible for a Skeleton or other ranged mob to accidentally hit a horse or other peaceful mob, however they do not actively target them.
Hostile mobs can also aggro on each other, usually due to a Skeleton. (Most common with Skeleton-Skeleton or Skeleton-Spider).

Yeah I'm fairly new to the PC version. Coming from the PE version I knew that creepers can choose to blow up near tamed dogs that bite them (even if I'm far away) so I just wanted to be sure it was because it attacked, rather than because it somehow knew the animal was tamed by me.
