... So I decide to go thru my established base portal into the Nether and on the other side I find a baby slime! My first thought being so close to the portal he musta come thru from the Overworld, but my base portal is on the 2nd floor of my base, enclosed, and the baby slime would have had to have opened a button controlled piston door, climbed some stairs and then a ladder to reach it. I wonder if he's a glitched Magma Cube; the portal is near a Fortress and cubes do spawn in the area ... i'm playing SP, 1.7.4 with no mods. Any ideas?

If there's even one air block next to your portal, the baby slime could have spawned there. There's no way he spawned in the Nether.

Well, as I understand it, slimes only spawn below layer 40 generally; in swamp biomes they can also spawn between levels 51-69 ... my base is in an Ice Spikes biome with no adjacent Swamp biomes, and my portal is located at y=103 anyway!

That's interesting, I looked on the wiki pages and found no reason for them to spawn there. I wonder if it's a bug?
