I agree this is a good idea, but it sort of reminds me of the oldschool Harvest moon games on the snes where you would watch the tv and it would tell you the weather for the next day.
I think that should make weathervanes craftable items that would make it possible to predict future weather

I didn't know that Minecraft had... other people. Who's doing the broadcast? And if you can receive it, why are you still stuck in some deserted place?

No. Tv's should not be in minecraft. They don't fit. Now, watching for "weather features" like more cloud cover, or wind noises to signal a storm would be great.
i didnt know minecraft had a time era
Do to the existence of torches in lieu of the modern light bulb, I would say that a television would look completely out of place. Implementing a modern-esque light source alongside or as a replacement to torches would help to alleviate any strangeness. This would include, of course, the advent of electricity.
the minecraft guy doesnt have the tools to make lightbulbs. torches are easy to make.
who the hell are you to tell me theres a time period in this game?
i always thought it was the future...after a nuclear fallout or something

Who would be the host?

You, sir- are a genius. The clock should go crazy before a lightning storm, just as it does in the nether.
Except, when you're in the Nether, what time it is isn't important. That's a different case altogether when you're in the Real World, and you can't see the sun.
Why not have the compass do it? I like the idea of a handheld barometer AND a block based barometer, but some storms in Minecraftia might have "magnetic disturbances" (tm) and cause the compass to go screwy.
Incidentally, if only compasses went crazy if you were a) near iron or :cool.gif: near a dungeon...
I think a different divice would fit more like a variation of a compass with 2 needles and one points to the direction of the storm and the other shows how strong the storm will be
omg look in the sky, what is wrong with you ****ing people, seriously, just because you rely on tv to rule your real life you don't need to corrupt minecraft with that same crap.

Glad someone FINALLY said this!

Ontopic: i love the idea of wolves acting up. It would give them a use besides combat
It would also good for smp, especially for catching thieves and greifers
