My brother was challenged on our realm the other day to build a dirt house that wasn't awful. He gladly accepted and made this masterpiece. what do you think? could you stand living in a dirt house if it were like this? I should say that it does however of course use doors, windows, torches and fences and also is furnished with a bed, crafting table and furnaces, but all other materials are dirt or close to it. What do you think? Good enough to live in?
There is no ugly block, there is only a player who doesn't know how to use it properly. This is a fine example of that. A player made a very nice house out of dirt.

Agreed! Very fine example of what a good imagination can do. (Though I do think some blocks are ugly, like Glowstone! I usually try to cover it up)
I actually started playing around with dirt type housing and it can be really nice for building. Then Endermen came along and now I don't do dirt anymore. Still that looks terrific.

Glowstone isn't meant to be used as a building block haha. It's a decoration/light source block. Though I have seen builds where players use it as a building block and make it look really nice. It just depends on the build and how well the player can use the certain block.

I need a light source inside my buildings, and torches far too often don't fit the theme. Glowstone and Redstone Lamp are the only other options until Sea Lanterns are in. I like how you can put carpet on top of Glowstone, so you can hide the light block in the foor.

Agreed. I tend to put Glowstone in the floor. So you'll see any places I own look like a disco.
Also, that dirt house is pretty sweet. Like the vines and flora growing out of the top of it. Also, dat random spider looking down.

sorry but dirt is by far the worst and ugliest block in the game to be honest what that house needs is a tnt attack just blow it up
(last time i was on a sever and the person made a dirt house we had to blow it up) (it was funny heh heh)

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed

The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You may think it's ugly, but builders who build for the artistic style know there is no ugly block. There is only a person who doesn't know how to use it properly.

That's actually pretty damn good. It's not something I would live in, I have a need for grandeur (Literally, even the path to my house is filled with special effects... Like smoking blocks and nagastone stuff, but that's from mods), but it's a damn good build.

The block dirt wouldn't seem as ugly if it was called "earth" not "dirt" You can actually do a lot with dirt, and it only seems ugly because it reminds us of real life dirt.
Your brother should be proud of it and by all means live in it!

Side note, I love the GIF in your signature. I've done that myself. Winters are rough in New England!
That's probably what I would have done for a "dirt house" building contest
