I don't even care that much about ghasts unless either they are bugging me or I really need ghast tears (which is really rare). But yeah, most of the time ghast drops are super hard to reach. You have to travel the entire length of your massive mansion just to get there for the drops. And sometimes it dOeSn'T eVeN dRoP.
I only use ghast tears for end crystals, usually. Regeneration potions aren't worth so much to me when we have health potions and high quality foods.
That said, a ghast in a small cave is a floating duck and fun to target.
build a large platform made out of stone so the ghast can spawn but the explosions won't make holes. cobble stone is very easy to get in mass especially if you strip mine

I'm pretty sure that you can shoot an arrow at a ghast and switch to a sword of looting before the arrow hits to still get the looting benefits when it dies.
Yeah, i've always done this, even when the update was added being able to dual wield, I still do the Looting Sword switch. In fact its almost become an automatic response as you can do it for virtually everything that has a Looting bonus/extra drop.
By far the most fun... and fastest way i get massive tears... fly around with elytra and sword ⚔️ 😝 oooh yeah that sharpens your skills for pvp air battles.!!
Heheh, that sounds extra dangerous, and spicy! Ghasts have odd hitboxes and move rather fast.

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
You can also bounce their fireballs back at them while holding that Looting sword.
As i usually fight Ghasts with a bow, I usually ping their fireballs back with an arrow, bit more reliable than timing it with a sword, unless its close range and you dont have time to pull back the bow ... sometimes its tricky with the bow though, because you ping back a fireball then draw the bow to shoot at the Ghast just as it fires its next fireball, so you aim at that instead etc etc; I dunno how many of the 2700+ Ghasts i've killed in my world died via "Return To Sender", but its probably a good percentage

They're also harder to hit with Tridents for some reason, next time I go in the Nether I'm bringing a bow, since I usually managed to hit them properly. I find it easier to judge the trajectory of the arrow as I am more accurate hitting distant mobs with the bows.

Fair. Tridents aren't fire or lava proof to my knowledge so I would never use them in the nether.

The thing is, you still get that looting bonus if you're holding the sword in your off-hand! So go ahead and use that bow....

That's much easier said than done, especially if you're trying to protect the surrounding environment.
