Wheat grows too slow

Am I doing something horribly stupid? I just can't seem to make wheat grow fast at all. I tried the method listed [here] to no avail. I farm underground with light from torches, if that makes a difference.

I have a problem similar to that The dirt wouldn't return seeds.

Try putting water next to your wheat. It works better. And you should also use bonemeal.
