I have a base, a great big castle base with a courtyard in the middle. Now, I have a tree farm in the middle of this base, with nothing above it. So, I had an axe, and was standing beneath a tree while I cut down the trunk. They say don't dig directly above you, but it was a tree, I figured I was fine.
I wasn't. I cut down one log above me and something fell on me. It looked like rock or something, I got trapped underneath it and died. I go back to my base once I respawned and... nothing. There is no tree where I was cutting down a tree, and none of my supplies were there, it took me 30 seconds to get back to the base. My inventory should have been there, right?
So, any ideas what might have happened? I'm extremely confused and worried that my game is glitching. Any advice would be helpful, if this is a glitch I hope it can be fixed.
It's not a Mob, I play on Peaceful, and it's not a griefer, I play on single player. So, help?
Can you describe this rock a bit more?
Are you using a texture pack?
Was it the same as being trapped under sand?
Was there anything else odd about the tree?
Sand and gravel are the standard blocks that obey gravity. My guess is this was a glitch, an odd one at that but it still happens. On occasion a player will get glitched into a wall and they suffocate. My guess is when you destroyed the block, the game glitched thinking the tree was still there. Thus you were then inside the tree and suffocated. Shortly after it figured out the tree wasn't there and got rid of it. As far as why your inventory was gone I have no idea. I've always been able to get mine back whenever the game tosses me into a wall in my mining branches by just destroying the wall when I get back to it.

1. The rock was like Smooth Stone, but it's not affected by gravity. It was darker than gravel, so that's not it. It was just that, smooth stone.
2. No, I don't use them or mods at all.
3. In the fact that I was stuck? Yes. But I could'nt punch it. I was just stuck. Nothing would make it break.
4. No, it was in open air and surrounded by other trees.

Gravel above a torch?
Nope. Open air at ground level. No torches, just me beneath an aboveground tree.
I'd really appreciate it if this thread wasn't derailed with Herobrine. I know he doesn't exist, though I'll admit that was my first reaction. And I'd rather I wasn't though to be a troll.
Unless it happens again, it was probably just a glitch in the game mechanics. Not sure why it happened or what caused it, but that's probably all it was.

Thank you, that was what I thought too. But dang, I had my first redstone in that world in my inventory right then. :tongue.gif: Guess I'll just have to go digging for more.
I'm guessing it was some catastrophic failure in Minecraft's coding some where. It seems like you got 3 major glitches at once; random stuff falling on you, your inventory items disappearing, and you being unable to move.
Also, when you came back, did you see any saplings on the ground from the leaves on the tree?

Oh, don't worry about that.
You'll be throwing your excess to the dogs herobrines after about 30 minutes of mining.

Not really, I've been mining and building underground tunnels for days, I enjoy the extras. It makes building the rest of my castle easier. And with no hacking involved.

Nope. Nothing. It was like the tree was never even there. Kind of disconcerting.
I believe what you see by default when choking is smoothstone. If this happens again, go into 3rd person mode and move out from whatevers choking you. I can live with the game lagging and you getting trapped in the remains of the tree somehow, but... the tree then disappears! Are you sure you were in the same position you were in when you were killed. Was it an old tree( Pre-Biome. This can only be true if you have had alpha for a long time. These rare trees have issues with Cartographer), a world generated tree, or a planted one. Was it default, Birch, or Pine?...Is there even a remote chance it was gravel or sand (or TNT...actually, TNT would explain everything, choking, as they are affected by gravity when primed, the loss of the tree and inventory as well.)

My goal in Minecraft is to defeat every glitch in Minecraft, so people can play without worry.
Its beta, what are you gonna do i guess.. Probably just a glitch with recognizing which blocks are where, my recomnedation, invedit anything valuable that you lost back, cus you didnt deserve to lose it in the first place.

I just got the game last month, 1.4 was my first update. I don't have TNT because I play on Peaceful and without inventory hacking. Yes it was the exact place, it was a planted tree in a specific part of the tree farm in the courtyard of my castle. I couldn't move, and no choking isn't just smoothstone. When I choke on Sand it looks like Sand. It was a default tree, I think that's all you can plant, right?

My guess is that while you were chopping the tree away, another sprouted up from the tree farm as well, and continued to suffocate you. As for the greyness and stone-ish texture... maybe the leaves of the other tree were trying to recognize which biome you were in? Other than this, it sounds like a bone meal glitch of some kind. But I'm not entirely sure if my theory could happen, so it was probably a meal glitch.
It's possible that the wood you just chopped down spawned back and suffocated you as you were attempting to cut down the rest of the tree. I'm not sure if the respawning block glitch was patched in 1.4; just a thought.

...Forgive me for sounding like a n00b. But what's a bone meal glitch?

Just a glitch with bonemeal helping trees grow. Sometimes it lags and grows 2 or 3 seconds later, catching you off guard. I least thats what I think Brist means, sorry if I'm wrong.

I plan to. I thought it was undeserving as well.
