So I deleted my old world that I promised myself I'd keep (I do that a lot). I then started a new world under the same name (Beta 1.4).
I spawn, look around, as per usual. There's a nice desert with a few sinkholes to my right. I go to investigate, because I haven't seen a dungeon in a while.
Nothing. Just a few under-desert ponds. So I continue on, passing a few cacti. I see a flash of green, think to myself "just another cactus". Upon closer inspection, the green flash is a little too bright for a cactus. Still think nothing of it, as I could be seeing it wrong.
Then it disappears. And reappears. Disappears again. Reappears yet again. Unless 1.4 added moving cactuses that are neon-green, I've got a problem. The creeper decides to run straight for me, looking up at the clouds as it did so.
I trap it behind a cactus, as it is content to simply rub against the spiky spikes until death.
So, after that rousing story, I want to ask: Has anyone ever generated a new world and had monsters on it? Is this new to 1.4? Is it a glitch or is it supposed to do that?
For more information:
-The world generated stupidly fast. Like, seriously, it didn't take even a second.
-I used the same name for both worlds.
-I used random seeds on both worlds.
-I also found some bones in an underground lake, which leads me to believe there was a skeleton on this world too.
-As said above, I generated a completely fresh world. I haven't even punched a log yet.
EDIT: Alright, I did some exploring. It turns out I just generated the exact same world as my previous one. But like I said, I didn't mess with the seeds. Maybe I got the same random seed twice in a row, the game got confused and thought it was the same world, and put in the monsters & items. But that seems a little far-fetched. I'd still like some answers.
i've never had monsters appear before night but if there was, say, a dark cave exposed to the surface then i see no reason why the creeper couldn't have just spawned in the mouth of the cave and wandered out
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
For as long as the grass grows
For as long as the stream flows
And the sun shines down unto us
Only they who walk the clouds know
For how long the winds blow
And the sky is blue above us

No, there were no caves around. He spawned on the top of a large hill. Still confused, though. Why did the same name give me the same world?
You 'deleted' the world in the minecraft window, but you didn't delete the files from your minecraft folder. When you made a new world with the same name, it grabbed the correctly named level files from your minecraft folder (that's why it generated so quickly).

Yeah, I was kind of coming to that conclusion myself. I guess it takes a little while for Minecraft to eventually delete the files from the folder, so it said "**** it, not doing work today" and grabbed the same files as the previous world.

Also, I've got screens if anyone wants them.

Well, I think we can safely /thread now.
