To make zombies harder just have them travel in packs.
Once when I was deep in a cave I got attacked by a swarm of around 6 zombies. Not much you can do when they circle you and start beating you from every direction...
I like the idea of "sprinting, I want to eat your entire body not just your brains, unlimited cardio, lop off my arms and legs ill still be coming for you" version of zombies better than the "frankenstein UHHH.... UHHHHUHHH." version. Make em dangerous, fast, hard-hitting, flesh-eating rotting corpse SOB's.
Do you even have to ask? I'd give them ZombieCraft pathfinding skills! No longer will hiding behind makeshift walls protect you from an incoming swarm!
As said before, they're really fine as they are once you fix the bugs. If you want a real challenge from Zombies, fight them with a sword with bad lag.

Do you have a lovely bunch of coconuts? Do you have them all standing in a row? Are there big ones, small ones, some as big as your head?
is there a mod that turns all mobs in the game hostile? seems applicable
chickens/pigs/cows/sheep attacking you, spawn in the day?!!?
are you ever safe on grass?!?!!
^ seems like a good idea to me, without changing the game too much (or is it?)

We'd start with the suggestion of them spawning in groups more often. You don't want a zombie, you want the horde.
And then, we give them all new pathing. And the ability to see you (smell you :tongue.gif:) through walls. Subsequently, they should be able to break through wooden doors, wooden planks, and glass. Logs might be too tough, but when a zombie knocks on wood you know you shouldn't be safe~

I say they should have a chance of turning you into a zombie.
When this happens you can't be in the sunlight... obviously.
You move slightly slower and you have a 10% chance of losing an arm. I mean what's a zombie apocalypse movie without some zombie losing an arm or some other appendage? This would mean you lose a few slots on your hotbar.
Once it's night you make a mad dash towards your house where you can wait out this 'disease' and such.
Oh and your hearts will turn green... because I dunno.
This chance of disease wouldn't effect those on easy... well no. Make it optional for easy. But not so on other modes.
If you do go out at day or in sunlight anyways you will start burning until you find shade or water.
Doesn't last long and death will not cure it.
Oh and if your spawn is well lit up while you are a zombie you will not spawn at all... ok I am just kidding on this part.
I dunno I think this would be fun... though doesn't really make them harder. More interesting perhaps. lol
It would be a nice touch if zombies that were out of luck and couldn't find a human to feast upon, resort to cannibalism and devour each other. Also if they awakened and came out of dirt if disturbed.
Perhaps holy water? A cross made of + + would make a canister of it, laying it on the ground would prevent zombies from approaching. Perhaps a white flame would appear?
It would also be horrific if they could scale walls. I'd be screwed then.
Aside from fixing the attack glitch, I don't think they need to be made any harder. Not EVERY enemy needs to be the hardest in the game in its own way. Sometimes generic enemies are just fine.
That being said, I don't want to see any difficult increases until they drop something better than feathers. Feathers are only good for arrows. Its pretty sad that they basically drop 1 of 3 ingredients for an item that is dropped by another mob just as often. Even if you can't handle fighting skeletons, nothing stops you from raiding the area around your base every morning for bones and arrows.
To make zombies harder make them behave like zombie pig men so when you hit one (still aggressive and will chase you) then every zombie on the map will attack you plus they should be faster then you
instead of burning up they should dig a grave for themselves until the next night- this would eventually result in huge amounts of LAG besieging your settlement, as they'd still continue to spawn
