I thought I would feast my eyes on some super l33t awesomesauce building/construction.
I have been fooled! Sir, I say, sir, you shall relinquish those 5 seconds of my life, at once, or I shall unleash an army of the foulest beasts [emo stoners] ever know to roam the Earth upon you, whereupon you will rue this day! Indeed.

I commend you on your discovery and am sure that it was an exciting one. However, diamonds only appear within a certain depth above bedrock. Dungeons however appear anywhere below sea level (or higher, i dunno)... So, I'd say, that discovering diaomds is why you EMPTY lava pools! Because the level where lava pools spawn underground is also in the same range as diamonds.
I use mossy cobblestone on builds close to water, with the layer right above the surface covered in moss, as well as ruins/castles, where I swap cobble for mossy cobble where stone meets grass.
It's fantastic for accents, and makes cobblestone buildings less bland and boring.
Win.
I usually mine it because I think it accents cobblestone buildings nicely.
Also, your texture pack doesn't do anything to change lag as long as it's 16x16. So the SimpleCraft pack works the same as, for instance, Glimmar's Steampunk.
Congrats on the diamond, but I hate your texture pack.
Simplecraft. I have a Dell labtop and it helps Minecraft run better.
I have a dell laptop and I can run those high quality texture packs no problem... Dnt B hatin on DELLZ
Texture packs have no effect on performance. If anything, it should run slower because it has to route to a different filepath for each rendered tile.
And don't get me started on Dell and their tendency to ship computers with defective parts and make the buyer think it's their own fault when it breaks.

A lower resolution texture pack could conceivably affect performance in a positive (albeit very small) way by freeing up video RAM. This is assuming the game is actually capable of using textures smaller than 16x16... which... I don't think it is.
Edit: To be clear, I'm not arguing for the OP's case. Simplecraft is a standard 16x16 texture pack that just looks lower-resolution, and thus shouldn't have any effect on performance.

I personally LOVE the default textures but my labtops makes abunch of annoying sounds when I play with default more than ten minutes or so. Simplecraft take about thirty and then calms back down. So it might just be my labtop.
edit* I might as well try out another texturepack, Simplecraft is getting a bit old for me.
I like mossy cobblestone more then diamonds. If I could find some I would name it George, and hug him, and pet him. And I would give it security! And I would keep it warm like a mother hen, so it would never feel rejected or lack for love.

I shall ready my arrow dispensers.

Me too, I use the high def packs sometimes with no problem on my Inspiron.

Sadly I have a hard time finding diamonds.
