Saying the graphics are bad does'nt mean people can build good looking buildings. Libraries are very nice to look at in minecraft and they would not be possible with out bookshelves. Bookshelve's use is making houses look better. Are you saying they have some other use?
Okay, so.. let me go build something with a bunch of colors, make the ground colored, make colored buildings. Now all of the sudden Minecraft is cartoony?
I agree with the OP, wolves just don't feel like they belong in MineCraft. Notch should not have made that promise!
It's going to completely ruin the feel of the game! The prevous mobs have always had a basic, yet fiercly deadly in their own way theme. Now along comes a wolf that has a completely diffrent feel to it and changes the atmosphere of the game!
When I first heard of the wolves I was realy exited, but as soon as I saw them I realised how much the game seemed to change with them.

I was the second person to use the avatar I have. The rest took it from me. The first I asked, he said yes.
I know what I'm doing. I plan ahead, or get tired and screw up everything.
Actually, I disagree with you there Muncher. Minecraft's graphics are pretty. I like all of the default textures other than glass. I commonly stand on the hills and mountains of minecraft and enjoy the view. I've turned to my wife occasionally and said things like "Look at this! That's ****ing amazing!" Sure they're simplistic but there is a certain elegance to it which brings the whole thing together.
That's one of the reasons I like minecraft. One texture on it's own is ugly. But when hey all are put together they make something amazing. But the graphics of this game would not appeal to children, because people are attracted to more soft, colorful, smooth, simple graphics. That's why Miis are so popular with children.

I'm sorry what? I read this five times over and could'nt find any coherent meaning or relevance to the quoted text.
I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Minecraft has rough, unvarnished, ugly graphics.
On that quote you say: Minecraft IN GENERAL has bad graphics... now you say "Ooooh, when there put together, THEN they look nice" What?

Children enjoy are designed to have smooth, colorful, cartoony, pretty, graphics
You said it yourself. Children like colorful, pretty graphics. So.... If I make a town thats colorful, its automatically now appeals to children. And dont say "Minecraft has ugly graphics" Because you literally just said: When there meshed, they look nice.

Yes on their own the textures in minecraft are ugly. But when put together they are beautiful. Just look at the picture thread. Or this one viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=138243

PLEASE don't say "You don't have to use wolves you know," because I obviously understand this. I don't want new players, who have never played MC before, to not get the right feel of the game.
Tell me what you think and why, and if there are any more of my kind...
hey, in creative the "feel"is BUILD!
in survival test its KILL AGGRO MOBS!
now, its both plus MINE!
the "feel" has changed at least twice!
IT CAN CHANGE AGAIN!

Heh. Is giggling like a little girl the standard reaction? I think I missed the memo.
Could we please stay on topic? This is about wolves. Not that.
I like how the wolves are textured... and when I saw them shake off water I gasped. That is friggan awesome. But I still think they need to consider making them hostile at night and calm during the day (like spiders).
Another thing is a feel the very realistic shaking of water and begging make the very unrealistic constant jumping and legs with no joints much more glaring and jarring.

I really don't see why people have this huge issue with wolves. If you don't like them, nobody is forcing you to use em. Hell, they may even drop good stuff, so you could even kill them.
As for the whole "kiddie" argument, how is it fair to say that when so many other more "mature" games have pets that you can use?
The simple fact is that dogs don't ADD anything new to minecraft.
Not exactly true. They add something very important to SMP PVP. That something is balance. The wolves are potentially the first real counter to bows added ever. And yet they themselves are balanced out by a vulnerability to explosives, lava, and cacti.

I fail to see how. To attack some one or send you dogs at them you must be close enough to them. The bow can easily keep the people very far away.

As an avid SMP PVPer I understand where you're coming from with this argument but I don't think you're considering the inevitability of a player having a pack of wolves AND a bow. Add some armor and maybe a bucket of lava to the scenario and you've got yourself a roflstomp.
See this is why no one can criticize dogs. Because all the supporters are fanboys who can't stand something they like being discussed critically.
The simple fact is that dogs don't ADD anything new to minecraft. Everything they do can be done by yourself, with out the wasted time. THe only reason dogs are in the game, no matter how hard the supporters deny it, is to pander to the people who just want to say "AW look at da cute puppy wuppy!". IF notch and jeb wanted them to be a real mob that would do something other then be tamed, then they would make them aggressive during night, but they made them all nuetural so the only things dogs will ever do is be tamed.
Dogs don't add any new choices or options to the game, do not enhance the atmosphere, do not add any redeeming value to the game as a whole, they are just there to look cute.
And the feel people are talking about, is jeb and notch are moving away from mobs that all feel important and necessary, and moving toward the mo' creatures way of doing things, which is flood the game world with very similar unoriginal mobs that don't fit in the game and hope some are good.
Minecraft mobs before where: Quality over quantity.
They are moving towards: Quantity over quality.
Who the hell ever said they're not gonna be aggressive at night?
This
No one ever says anything about night making them hostile at night.

They attack both people who you attack with fisticuffs/swords, and enemies who attack you by any means. And they are both faster and jump further than spiders. Now if the opponent is on a castle wall or something, yeah you are pretty much screwed. But in the average wilderness setting wolves have an advantage, especially in a forest where arrows might be stopped by trees.

EVERYTHING in Minecraft is "put" together. You're not just going to come by some random 1x1 block of cobblestone.
