I like the idea of wolves, I see them as a tool. I can use a wolf as a weapon. It is like a sword, or a bow. It gives you a unfair advantage of your average mobs. My plan for wolves is:
/spawn wolf 20
/freeze
/item bone 250
Feed until tamed
completely wipe the floor with everything but creepers.
Hooray for cheating!
But seriously, they are going to be rare, kinda hard to tame (seeing as you need to kill some skeletons to get enough bones to actually tame more than 1), and a tool.
Skele: 1 hit
Zombie: 1 hit
Spider: 2 hits
Creeper: 1 hit
Hard
Skele: 1 hit
Zombie: 1 hit
Spider: 1 hit
Creeper: 1 hit
See? They're low on health, so they're power is balanced. You could always ignore them, like you said not to suggest. It works just as well. Or request a mod to disable certain mobs from spawning.
That's how much they hit for idiot... :sleep.gif:
No, what I meant is how many hits from mobs one wolves it takes to kill the wolf.
PS: Will everyone please stop using the damn "don't use it" line? I figured if I put it in the OP not to use it, then you wouldn't. Please read the OP before you make a post.
uhm, no we wont
why?
because they arent a hostile mob
you cant say that about a hostile mob because if you dont like one you either have to tough it or play on peaceful, however unless you tame wolves and use them they wont affect you, so dont tame them
i dont use dyes and wool because i find them useless, am i complaining on the forums that they should be removed? no because i can simply not use them
same with wolves as they currently are
plus they are indev, by the time 1.4 comes out they'll probably be rarer harder to tame, sometimes come in packs and agressive
AAAAAND in 1.4 there will probably be other stuff
until they come out with a hostile you dont like quit complaining, its like complaining about the nether, dont like it, dont use it

I completely agree. I think dogs will be useless. They are just in the game so the kids that play the game can play with a fake dogs, and peter molyneux can bring his unhealthy attraction to dogs to minecraft.
For those that don't know peter molyneux was the one that got notch to put wolves in the game, he apparently has some sort of fetish, as in The Fable games your character gets strangely intimate, and SLEEPS with his dog. Also peter molyneux seems to think players can get attached to NPCs with on line of dialogue. I think that **** should stay out of minecraft But OH WELL.
Wolves are just so the pathetic people that play this game, who can't afford real dogs or real friends can feel loved by a fake pixel dog. Dog's don't add or enhance the game at all.
That or wolves are for people who don't want to constantly fight hordes of undead with their bare hands and would rather have an ingame minion do it for them.
Thats like saying saddles are for people that can't ride horses in real life. Or mods that add humans are for people that can't have real friends. THEY ARE BEING ADDED TO MAKE A ****ING GAME MORE FUN.

Nice color and size spam..
It's not spam, dude, this is just how I talk
Dude! That's totally math! We should hang out sometime and slay evil and junk!

The point is, I think they take away a huge part of the ssp game, loneliness. One of the reasons MC is so scary and fun, is that you are all alone, and have to survive on a foreign planet (world? country?). If a wolf follows you around everywhere and attacks enemies, then this completely interferes with the minecraft I grew up with.
Let's talk realism: if you were on an uncharted island, would you be able to find and tame a wolf? I understand the game has other unrealistic stuff in it, but they have some logic to them.
For instance, don't say "Well, creepers don't exist in real life but we're fine with them," because this is a strange Minecraft land in which creepers DO exist, and they only add difficulty to the game. With a survival aspect, wolves only get rid of the single player aspect of the game, and make it less "barely trying to survive," and more "just hanging out on this island with my wolf pets, I could stay here for a while :D" if that makes any sense.
PLEASE don't say "You don't have to use wolves you know," because I obviously understand this. I don't want new players, who have never played MC before, to not get the right feel of the game.
Tell me what you think and why, and if there are any more of my kind...
Oh please stop. Stop over analyzing this bro. "Just hanging out on this island with my wolf pets, I could stay here for a while :D" What? You've still got to feed your wolf and keep him safe, he's obviously not a super dog capable of taking a creeper hit without dieing. Now you'll be worried about you, AND your pet spot. But traveling underground won't be so mind wrenching since you'll have your little furry pal to keep you company. I absolutely love the idea of a wolf, there are A LOT of people like you, from what I've read. Who basically want the game to stay extreme basic, and UN dynamic, which is boring as hell.

I think the idea of having a companion will be even more scary because over the times you fight with them, you gain a friendship. Therefor you will go out of your way to protect your friend, and when (if) they do die, it'll be a whole lot sadder then a few diamonds. Like in 'I am Legend', if you didn't cry when the dog died then you have no heart.
Well that's what I think.
I don't see why you can't tame animals. I have dogs and turtles. They do tricks. So why can't we tame wolves?
Thats why I like this update
We CAN tame animals (and I like how your turtle can do tricks :biggrin.gif:), but not alone. Go into the woods alone and come back with three wolves that will fight for you, and I'll report this thread for deletion.
i for one want wolves. i recognize lonelyness being a gameplay factor in minecraft, some people like it, some people dont, minecraft gets to a point where you have a fancy fort and well protected, once you get to he point that you have done basicly everything you can. wolves, or dogs if you may, will cheer up the enviornment, espeacialy if things like, SIT, or LAY DOWN were to be implemeted as chat in SSP, this would be much fun. now lets see, the main purposes of wolf rage are, they attack mobs. well, every wolve could have its own personality (not every wolve attacked mobs)... or maybe they had to be trained in order to know what to attack. second, some people rage that they will take the lonely away, well, if you want to be forever alone, DONT tame dogs, its that simple, asside from those, i dont see why people wont embrace wolves, as notch awready said, they are quite rare, or uncommon, maybe like pumpkins, or rarer then those, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that you can have tons of wolves, i mean, it doesent bother me, it just allows me to think that they can be used to over power any oponent, creeper or not. but, like i said, if i dont like so many wolves, ill just tame one or two and thats preety much it.
PLEASE don't say "You don't have to use wolves you know," because I obviously understand this. I don't want new players, who have never played MC before, to not get the right feel of the game.
I for one like wolves but hate when people don't use good arguments when better ones are right there.
how about "I would ignore wolves, but I play multaplayer"
I myself do want wolves, but the idea of getting mauled by 12 wolfs in multaplayer might come off as bad
So Basically loads of Butthurt people Complaining about wolves making the game bad make other people Butthurt who then complain about people complaining about wolves making the game bad Nice

I'm planning on taming a lot of them and putting them all in a walled in yard where i can visit them and use them to slaughter friendly mobs in my spawning ground. I probably won't take them out in the countryside, though.
Get a mod to get rid of wolves?
Or stop playing if the game is ruined.
No one is forcing you to tame a wolf.
Also I read somewhere that wolves will be hard to find. so its not like you're going to have a pack of 20 wolfs the first night...
Yes!! We will start the wolf hunting brigade! to destroy the unnecessary stupidness!
Pig cavalry! Prepare for the hunt!
This thought gruntles me greatly.
/spawn wolf 20
/freeze
/item bone 250

play on hard, no houses alowed, only go out at night, remake world when you die
tell me how easy that is

XD good point though
Do I win? Seriously, I think I won.
