I've been playing this world for a number of weeks, and now suddenly if I cross a certain point, the game looks like it's lagging out. I save and exit to the title then reload, but I can't move. I can still destroy blocks but if I do that to those underneath me, I still just float in midair. I've used MCEdit to move myself around and it's almost like it's just one particular chunk that's doing this for some reason. Is there any possible way to stop it?

It's most likely a corrupt portion of the save. I have a spot like that too. I don't know how to fix it, but I did cordon off the area by testing it with arrows. Now it looks like a zoo of frozen mobs. It also had my chicken farm there, but I don't know if that's what caused it. It might have been the change in save file format.
I just got done trying that. Backed up my save games, deleted the whole Minecraft folder (bin and all) as well as the .exe and I still have the very same issue.

1.delete minecraft
(save anything valuable like world saves, texturepacks, etc)
2. re download
Why must everyone give bad advice? NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER delete the entire Minecraft folder unless you're totally uninstalling the game for good. It's a waste of time and effort. All that ever needs deleted to reinstall is the bin folder. I'd do a search and post the amount of times that's been said in just the last month, but the search is down and it would make this thread longer than the Mississippi river.

I tried just deleting the bin and still no luck. It's not really an area I can block off because it's a fairly major hub...a lot of stuff there.
Your choices are as follows:
1) Delete that chunk and rebuild your hub
2) Delete your save and start over
3) Block that area off and never enter it again.
It's a corrupt chunk in the save file. Deleting the bin will have no effect on it, as it's already saved. Certain parts of the bin determine how it's initially generated and how it's rendered. If your bin were bad, you'd have more than that chunk malfunctioning.

If you think the title and OP tells you everything you want to know about a thread, don't reply. If you want to actually read the thread and post an intelligent reply, you're welcome to it.
Just watched some of the beginning, but yeah, a lot like that, except no movement whatsoever...just that lagging thing. Then when I reload the save I stand still and don't move at all.

Well the video talked about only certain areas had this time, gravity, lag... whatever it is distortion.
Creatures outside the area moved around unaffected but when they got close they got affected.
Is yours world wide or just that area?
Can you look around and see?
The affects of this weird distortion to me is unknown but I'm going to guess its your world being corrupted.
Have you tried other worlds?
Too make sure its not something that is seed related, can you provide the seed of your world?
Also the coordinates of your trouble would be good which you can see when you press F3 and tell me the X Y Z that's on the left of the screen.
I don't think decimal values of the coordinates are needed.
As far as I can tell it's just the one particular chunk that does this. I started the world with a random seed (in fact, it was before the update that allowed seeds) but I could possibly record video of the area affected and upload it to YouTube.

Man i had this problem before, and it confused the hell outta me. I made a thread and the only advice i got was to delete minecraft and reinstall. It sucked, cuz the backup didn't work and i'd been working on that map night and day for a month
One thing i didn't try was MCEditing myself some lava or tnt and killing myself, you cuold give it a go?
Just gave that a try...I was stuck in that chunk and I edited it so I was inside a column of lava and nothing happened. I took no damage at all.

Thatd be annoying, ive had it happen, but that was over 10,000 blocks away from my house, so it didnt matter, but anyway i think theres a program that "De-corrupts" it...havent tried it but you could google it.
I had the same prob with a pressure pad that opened a door in my base, but just destroying then replacing it fixed it.
But it's probably not the same thing if its a whole chunk though...

If, by some freak chance the usual nonsense I generate seems to help you, there's a nice shiny green + button to tell me that I'm doing the right thing

This.
You don't have to delete the .exe do you? Only the bin I think

Correct, just the bin.

I haven't had this sort of distortion since early alpha.

Delete the world.... maybe that will help.
