This is my second attempt at building a Boat Station.
This station uses EATS-style canals invented by Etho that move the boat at maximum speed, the same speed as a minecart. EATS stands for Etho's Advanced Transportation System.
The boat takes several meters to build up to maximum speed, and because of the compactness of the junctions in this system, the boat will not reach it within the station itself. However, the canals that leave the station in a straight line will travel at the same speed as a minecart.
This station is button-operated, and has a display light for every destination. It has 8 boat holding bays, each with its own display light. You can call a boat with one button, and launch it with another. Upon launch, the boats in the holding bays shuffle along, ready for the next launch.
There is also a small internal minecart track for touring the station. This is powered by a C-Booster.
I have also included a selection of modular canal pieces for building an EATS-style boat network. Boats traveling on these canals either travel on the left or right stream of the canal.
Etho's video on youtube called EATS- Proof of concept (Youtube account EthosLab) only showed me how to turn to the left in a right stream.
During the course of making this station, I discovered how to change streams from left to right or visa verse, how to turn to the right while in a right stream, and to the left while in a left stream. And how to make a flat junction that doesn't require a block of soulsand, so very little momentum is lost in junctions.
This station is different to most Boat Stations in that it has a dispenser and an actual launcher, which doesn't launch at maximum speed yet but I'm working on that.
The redstone logic used in this station is the new compact logic by KeithMajhor! that uses repeater blocks. I could have put in another logic computer and made this a train/boat station, but I just couldn't be bothered.
It could also be optimised and made alot smaller, the 8-boat dispenser and the fact that it has pre-selectable destinations and display lights are what take up the most room.
While the EATS-style canals are much more complex than a regular minecart rail, interestingly they require no iron, just signs or pressure plates, a bucket of water, and a building block like cobblestone.
I bet the boat dispenser is also Etho's?
i read his first topic, its one of the greatest minds of minecraft.
while evrybody is messing whit minecarts and redstone, Etho used boats instead, the thing nobody ever uses for proper all day transportation.

Yeah the more compact boat dispenser was built from scratch by me after I looked at his 10 boat dispenser to see how it worked.
I agree he is pretty epic, the idea of using ladders to cancel out the boats bounce is just inspired. I only found out that was possible 2 days ago and have already figured out many things that aren't shown in his proof of concept.
He's definitely the pioneer of boating technology though.
