This is the first Boat Station ever built in minecraft. W00t! I invented something! Something... useless... lol
In the words of Theinternetftw, "its... somewhat slow... and big ... and unweildy but it's implemented in a video game whaddayouwant"
I am aware that this is inferior in many ways to a Minecart Station, but I did it for the challenge and the stimulation. Plus its kinda fun to travel in.
This an 8-Way button-operated station with display lights, with an in-built 6-Bay boat dispenser, a boat launcher, and is all connected by current-powered canals that automatically carry you along without you pressing forwards, and will never break your boat.
You can select one of 8 destinations with a button, which lights up a display light. You can push a button to call a boat from the 6-Bay dispenser, which slides out into the launcher bay.
The boats in the dispenser automatically shuffle along, ready for the next boat call. The first 4 boat holding bays have display lights to indicate whether they are holding a
boat or not.
The launcher will not launch until you are inside the boat, because an empty boat cannot traverse some of the canal corners.
Boats will only smash if the player steers them, otherwise the system aligns them perfectly.
There is also a 9th button that sends the player around the whole canal system and back into the station, great for viewing the whole structure.
The redstone logic was made in collaboration by Bleh!, Zorak, Raken, and Angel Mapper. The Boat T-Junction was invented by Etho and optimized by me.
Etho was the pioneer of Boating Technology. 4 days ago I downloaded Etho's 10 boat dispenser, dismantled it, and wrestled out its secrets. I then applied the principles that I learned to building
various boat mechanisms from scratch, including a 40-boat dispenser and a 4-way junction.
Building this was extremely tedious and I almost gave up a few times, the boats are so freaking temperamental. But its done now :biggrin.gif:
The redstone wiring in this station is a bit messy, but it all works. The next Boat Station that I build will be far more compact and will have various extra features.
Also, boat elevators allow perfectly vertical and fast transportation and are more compact now that I have solved the excess momentum problem.
There are two different kinds of water elevators used in this system, one which cancels out all of the boats upwards momentum, and one that doesn't cancel out as much.
It is vital that the boats in the Station's dispenser face either North or South, North ideally. This is because boats automagically align to the North upon log in.
There is a big N floating in midair near the station to help you align it if you want to download the .schematic and import it.
As a side note, this is why boat pez dispensers are impossible as far as I can tell. They work after you load them with boats, but upon logging in and out they shift or break.
^^ technicaly thats a boat dispenser however, what is described in the OP is a boat station, much like a minecart station, using boats. one question, if you press 1 button, how did you get the others to reset? the only way i can think of is using memory latches etc and a bunch of wiring
Yeah that's just a dispenser, and only holds 10 boats, I made one that holds 10, is only 3 blocks high, and stacked 4 of them to make a 40-boat dispenser. I could keep stacking and make a 100 or 200 boat dispenser but there's no challenge in it.
That can be replaced by a dispenser block and a button.
What I have made has actual junctions, it's basically a train station but with water and boats. A complete system of current-powered canals that can actually be ridden.
Most other canals are just still water in a trough, these are dynamic currents that move you.

Yeah the buttons and display lights are a bunch of RS-NOR latches, so they have actual memory. I built a 4-Way version with 2 RS-NOR latches, it was insanely big and slow and then I found this thread: For Minecart Station Builders: Compact Buttons/Lights - Minecraft Forums viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=126312
Those guys have compacted them down insanely small, so now I just use that pre-made "Computer" for my boat and train stations.
There is an even smaller version now using redstone repeaters but MCEdit places redstone repeaters facing the wrong way sometimes, so I dont use it yet.
It just occurred to me that my Boat Stations' repeaters might face the wrong way after people import it. And since most people wont be bothered replacing them, it might not work at all lol. Meh. Maybe if they face it north as it was when I built it the repeaters will face the right way.
A guy called Ethos beat you to it. Standby while I get you a link.
Edit: He calls it EATS - Etho's Advanced Transportation System. Can't search for the thread due to lack of search bar, but here's his youtube video dated back in December.

FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh man thats ****in gay... Here I am thinking Etho was a chump for not realizing the potential of his T-Junction and the guy is actually LIGHT YEARS ahead of me! Jesus....
God that sucks.
He's doing freaking 4 way INTERSECTIONS for christsakes!
ARRRGHHH!!!
Oh well at least it was fun to make. Thanks for the links, even if you did burst my bubble.

Given that you have enough ingenuity to do what you did, I would say learn from his vids and improve on the designs.

I'm kinda soured on the whole thing now lol. I genuinely thought that I was breaking new ground because I had only seen his 10 boat dispensers, there was nothing in his save files to indicate a whole station, just a single T-Junction used for routing boats into lava -.-
I can't watch youtube atm so I'm not even sure how much of what I made is original.
I told you about the EATS method in your other thread, didn't you check it out? :smile.gif: It's the one that propels you at maximum speed w/o boosters and that allows you to exit or enter the highway at any point. It's still a fledgling technology and I'm sure you can build on what's been done. Some guy actually went and made a "British boat design" where the boats travel on the left side of the road. :tongue.gif:
Yeah you did, but I couldn't watch any videos at that time so I didn't know how far he had gone with his T-Junction.
I see now that he has built a 4-Way intersection that is pretty cool, but not an actual Boat Station where you can pre-select your location on the Compact Buttons/Display Lights logic.
He has actually invented an even smaller T-Junction, that I'll be using for my next 8-Way Boat and Train Station.
And his current-powered canals are MUCH faster than mine.
I've decided to continue experimenting with boats since there is so much more to be invented in this field, including the 3-Way junction that Etho briefly mentions in one of his videos.

Well that's about it.
Enjoy!
Cube Craft, a simple pack by me!

Dude I'm using my mobile phone as a modem... I can't even watch videos atm lol.
.schematics are tiny files... if you don't wanna look at this then don't, its no sweat off my sack =P
There's some screenshots of it here http://www.mcschematics.com/index.php?topic=1563.0
