Let me guess: You used a stone pickaxe to mine diamond?
sadly It was my first day and I asked my friends why it happened and they said i needed steel or greater... I wasted like 3 diamonds with that rock pick... I through it in lava...
Trying to put lava below glass as my floor in my wood house...
My second was trying to do the same thing as a hanging light and going back to the lava to get more while leaving it open... Yeah, that house has burned down quite a few times...
I'm assuming a mistake would be something huge. In my case, i built a castle mostly out of obsidian i admined to myself. I ended up wanting to change it, but i just buried it instead because it would take too long to take all the obsidian back.
Other than that, I never had any minecraft mistakes.

I am a creator. This makes me infinitely greater and more useful than any war lover.
My first mistake was building an awesome base when I didn't know what direction I was from spawn. Fortunately I found it again nearly a week after dying.

When i first started playing minecraft back in alpha, i thought flint was actually coal. I quit minecraft for a few weeks after being so frustrated. :sad.gif:
Oh man.. I had so many mistakes I can't even remember. Well, one that I regret the most?
On my first/second day of playing MineCraft I couldn't find any cave entrances so I decided to dig deep down till I dropped to a random cave. (I was on Peaceful mode, luckily, sorta) I dropped down, ventured far, found plenty of gold, iron and diamonds and was stopped to a halt because of lava. I didn't want to turn back because I was curious if I could find more stuff so I built a bridge over the lava. Next thing you know, the game freezes and I reopen Minecraft literally PRAYING I wouldn't fall in the lava.
Guess what?
I fell in the lava. My stuff was all burned in the lava too.
This is exactly what happened to me. Not only did I loose all of my ore and what not... I also lost my Compass and clock! Next time I go down... I'm leaving that stuff behind.
My first mistake was attempting to kill creepers. I wanted the TNT so I could blow stuff up, and once I actually did get a TNT I placed it right inside my house.
I had to use a map editor to remove it :tongue.gif:
To those of you who check if a person has bought the game, I have not, my friend shares his with me.
First mistake of mine was clawing my way through rock, in about 5 FPS, thinking it breaks as easily as dirt. I didn't know how to play then...makes me laugh.

Yep, putting a Minecraft sig in the forums. Cause it's that awesome
I showed friends MC.They are BEYOND addicted already xD
Whats funny is one of them (who actually plays survival) i watch him and he mines dirt with a pickaxe, i even told him. He still does it... i think it has something to do about to lazy...
On Topic: My first mistake (that i can remember, to long since i first bought it :/) was making a Nether portal, whenever i went there and back it would be night... i would have to run 50 blocks or so to get back to my house... i lived right next to a dense forest in a sand castle (No creeper problems! I know... i was suprised too)
My face every time:
Dug myself a little hideout in a mountain and then instead of leaving an opening for light (I had no torches), I completely closed the entrance. Went pitch black and I couldn't find my way out because I'd moved right after, so I had no bearings.
Not knowing how to make smooth stone... My house was ugly cobblestone until i looked on the wiki.
I don't waste my time with smooth stone, because if i make a mistake i have to resmelt and everything. So i just use cobble & mossy cobble for my house (Every true survival i made i have found a dungeon eventually) And it looks fine to me.

After that, I got mobbed by about THIS MUCH thinking that they wanted hugs. I thought wrong. :
