Recently, I had to redownload a good deal of my files because of a mod that went corrupted on me. One of the things that I had to redownload was my texture pack - Painterly. Because I kind of hate the default ultramarine blue water in Minecraft, I used MC Patcher to get the pretty dark-colored water you can get with Painterly.
Booted up Minecraft, explored a bit for the fun of it, and I came across this.
It looks like I stumbled across a chunk that just isn't set to a biome. xD All the trees in that chunk are grayed-out except for the birch trees, and the grass is extremely bright green. I've had biome-compliance problems with MC Patcher before, but this is new. Anyone else seen something like this before?
(And no, I didn't hack it in or anything. I know I have hacked items in my inventory, but if you place a leaf block it automatically switches to the biome in the area. I tried.)
In the painterly pack, the trees are (without biomes) all colored gray and the grass is colored bright green. Depending on the biome, the gray/green is tinted to the colors set to that biome. I just thought it was funny that this chunk didn't have any coloring at all.
If you have ask "Is using X cheating?", the answer is most likely yes. Being a sandbox game doesn't change the fact you are cheating in it, regardless of what people say. However, the question you should be asking is "Does it matter?" The answer to that question is no.
Could it have something to do with editing in McEdit? I know it's probably a longshot. Just try reverting to original colours of Painterly and see if it's still there?

Notice the trees. They're grey. We're all doomed.

Run, fools, run.
My Master calls for you.
