The Extreme Hills biome is amazing to live in. You see great sights, a huge amount of elevation already made for you, and you can find the rare Emeralds here. Digging into a mountain is also made easier here.
For a bonus, my least favorite is the Desert biome. It just seems rather empty and difficult to live in.

I will usually build my house or main base in a jungle biome, because I love the color of that grass. Otherwise, I will build in a forest, or a Roofed Forest, if one is available.
I like plains and forest, mainly because the sand doesn't fall on you (desert), and it's not freezing cold (taiga [as if that makes any difference])....
Forest/Dark Forest that grass color is the reason.
The easiest place to live is probably the desert since it's wide open and mostly flat so in the day you can just build your house and light up the area so monsters don't spawn near by.

I used to actively seek out jungles to set up base on the canopy and make bridges between the trees, but since they made it rare I usually just go for roofed forests or mountains in the savannas.
I know the idea of treehouses are cool... but I just can't stand jungles
