Can someone give me a step by step on how to make Minecraft auto login?
One cool feature about the new launcher you might want to know about is that you can pass it command-line features! The syntax is:
Minecraft <username> <password> <server:port>
<username> is the username you wish to log in as <password> is your password. If this is set, the launcher will automatically start the game without waiting for you to press the button <server:port> is an ip to a minecraft server. If this is set, the game will automatically connect to that server once the game has started.
Might have to write a batch file to do it, assuming you're running Windows. Make a text document that has the commands you want with the proper syntax, then save it as a .bat file.
1. right click the minecraft exe, and click "create shortcut"
2. a shortcut will be created. right click this shortcut, and click properties
3. look at the target path. it whould say something like "C:\Users\NAME\Desktop\Minecraft.exe"
4. change it to "C:\Users\MATT\Desktop\Games\Minecraft.exe username password server:port". whatever your information is, just stick it in those slots. if you dont want to fill one, leave it out.
5. click ok.
6. click on your shortcut. the changes you made should be working, unless you typed something in wrong.

Give me an internet, or Chuck Norris will kill you!!!
4. (Don't know if this is needed) Run MC, then close it
5. Create a shortcut of MC
5a. To do this, right click MC > Create Shortcut
6. Right click the shortcut and select "Properties"
7. Add on the string of commands you wish to use.
7a. For example, JoeBob's MC account (password 12345) wanting to log onto Rapture SMP at 69.197.191.152 would type into the Target line, after everything else,
(space)JoeBob(space)12345(space)69.197.191.152
Make sure there's a space between everything, or this won't work.
8. Hit Okay, then run the shortcut
9. ???
10. PROFIT
JoeBob's shortcut properties window should look like:
(Obviously, the "Games" you see is my target...yours will probably not be the same.)
EDIT: Ninja'd ;-;
hilighted everything that is unneeded. downloading a new client does not require you to back your saves up.

That's quite a neat feature. Personally I have no use for it, but for someone who just plays SMP on the same server, it's a shortcut... within a shortcut.

Well I understand that it is unneeded to follow the highlighted instructions, but it is MANDATORY to back up your saves if deleting .minecraft
