So, after browsing through some of the more prominent threads about homes and structures, I have yet to see any buildings made primarily from birch wood. I don't even see that many made from pine either. But, I'm mainly looking for birch structures. Homes or other buildings, doesn't really matter. I would just like to see how it looks.

I'm not that great at building impressive structures, I mostly just end up with functional boxes. :oP But I've seen that a lot of you can make some pretty amazing stuff, so, have you tried to use birch for buildings?

Does it look to ugly to use, or does it look cool? I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting kinda tired of seeing cobble and wood -everything. There's sandstone now, pine, colored wool... and birch!

I'm playing on an older map before birch was added, so to get a decent amount will require some investment in travel time and all that, so I'd like to see some examples before I bother with it myself. Isn't anyone else curious to see what they look like? :oP

While I don't use birch for construction, it's an absolute must for decoration. It makes great-looking pillars and quite nice log tables.

You'd be surprised where it looks good.

I had a small, two story house on the server I frequented earlier.

Birch looks fantastic when used for small things. I wouldn't recommend it for a whole building though unless you like zebra stripes.

I find that birch logs can be used as a good base for tropical hut type buildings. So if you want an RP setting of say an upscale themed spa or a tropical resort, just couple it with something that would work as the top.

On the server I play on, my friends and I were working on a fishing village that used Tahiti as inspiration for the buildings.

Yellow wool seems to work well for a roof material :smile.gif:

I've tried it. Or at least I've tried using them as wallpaper. I find that white and gray wool still look better than birch, at least for that.

Yeah, birch is useful for small projects, but mansions are weird because it's so weird and it just looks odd.

I'm building a tower featuring birch. I don't like the way it looks so far. Not because of the birch, it looks a bit top heavy. The platform on top seems too big, but I don't want it any smaller because I still want to be able to walk on it.



It needs some work, but I don't pay much attention to this world. :sad.gif:

lol, what does age/education have to do with it? Unless you're majoring in architecture or something.

might look good for pillars.... Parthenon? i dunno, never used it myself. I am making a giant tree, i just use the birch for the planks :tongue.gif: and the normal logs for the main part of the tree.

A bigger base for that tower might help even out the top a bit. Just a thought. :ohmy.gif:) Anyone else have pictures and/or videos on birch buildings?

Sweet home there. It doesn't look too bad. Might even be something I might build in the future. :ohmy.gif:) Any interior shots of it? Or maybe a video tour? I don't really need the save file or anything. I'm just looking for inspirations to spark my own ideas.

Sweet house! I can't stay on one project long enough to make anything like that.

I did do some more work on my tower though. I made the base larger, and added a beacon on top. I also planted a cactus farm to get some color on the floor. The inside looks terrible, but hopefully I fill fix that soon.

I heard there is (or maybe was, dunno if fixed yet, as I've not found any birch or pine on my map yet) a bug where you could only find birch and pine naturally grown, since all planted saplings only grew to be regular oak...

That true?

Yep, we're hoping that Notch adds different kinds of saplings (Oak, birch, and pine saplings)

I think so yeah :tongue.gif:

I made a temple using pine for pillars, haven't used birch yet. I don't really like the look of it, the default looks a bit ugly to me (I make sure most of my structures look good in default for some reason).
