Ok, please don't flame me as I know that this thread has been posted many times before but I just want to ask a few questions...
To make a mob farm all I need to do is make a huge room that is completely dark and have a few mob spawners in it.. and pretty much have a few rivers in there that drag that mobs into some cacti and then have the items get pulled into a room where I can collect, right?
Am I missing anything? I've seen a few posts stating that I should create a mob tower but I've also seen that mob towers haven't worked since the Halloween update is this true?
Heh, essentially alls I'm asking is what the easiest and quickest way to make a mob farm..
Mob towers are for when you want to build a mob trap somewhere and you don't have access to a spawner or you want all types of hostile mobs. Mob traps can be built around existing mob spawners if you find them. If you use an inventory editor you can place mob spawners in a tower to make them even more efficient, but you have to make sure they spawn hostile mobs and not pigs.
If you build a large mob tower, it will still work. They are less efficient now, but still work.
You don't need mob spawners. Just a dark, massive room with water currents. Unless you want to go in there yourself, you need to have water currents and some way to kill the mobs. (lava, drowning, cacti, etc.)
When we talk about things working or not working though we're talking about how fast it is. Towers still "work" but the spawn code changed so that you don't gain anything from having more floors. As such a much flatter trap gets more done.
And just as you might light up the world so hostile mobs wouldn't spawn outside of your trap you could de-grass it to get all your farm animals in a really constricted area. The game basically pumps things out fast until it reaches the cap and then they just despawn slowly if more than 35 blocks from you or otherwise sit around until they can actually wander toward you.

Any thoughts?
