Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
We live in the age of smart phones and stupid people.
Thanks Mazdafreak, I've been busy going back to concentrating on Mount DOOOooom's twin spires on the main corner towers, currently 2 levels high outta the three before the roof.

As I'm moving away from a journal, these will be just more irregular updates I guess.
There's been a few very minor aesthetic changes, like the dirt walls outside the dog kennel windows (To blend into the mountain) have been white-washed with white hardened clay now; but a more substantial change is at the pool. Where the pool is, used to be a mountain back in Beta. Despite the re-decoration of that area this year - and adding stone and dirt layers on the outside of the walls to blend into the mountain, the high walls have bothered me.
So I cut them down to a moderate level:
Certainly got plenty of Diorite back.
Of course work has continued on regenerating Mount DOOOooom with adding spruce logs & planks to the cobble and rebuilding the two front "Gate towers" as well as making the corner ones three times as wide and to be three times as tall! (SEE: page 13, last update near the end dated - Sep 23, 2015)
Since then the middle spires of the corner towers have been built, the back tower in the sea has risen and old existing 3 width walls have been pulled down to accommodate wider new ones, I've even rebuilt the back corner tower that was cobble-tastic!
So now it's more something like:
The back-tower being re-worked:
As the middle front towers are "gate-towers" - after failing massively with redstone and pistons I made a much more simpler entrance at the front but kept it large enough for travel on horses and donkeys.
I liked this so much I duplicated it round the rail side as well in what was a traditional double door entry. All the spruce stairs that form the ledging on the wall also had to be then raised a block all round the side and front.
When I did a "plan build" to test out designs on my creative copy of the world, the initial spires of the corner towers were a lot skinnier so the towers looked "Rocket-like" in structure, however when it came to it in survival, I winged it and did it on the fly creating a bit more wider inner towers which mean more log beams supports per floor. (About 8 log beams around the circle on each layer, whereas a standard might have - 4 say.) With the roofs continually turning in on the corners it create a nice pattern on the inside:
Most likely I'll fill every other hole with glowstone eventually and fill in the spare holes.. At the moment I'm on a quest to make sure all the floors inside all towers have their spruce plank floors. Easy when working just with the huge spruce trees now, which I'm tempted to keep some around when it's done. OR surround it with them!
Not sure about the floor outside the ground walls - all stone?
Bonus night-time shot from the back:
maps:
*Any dirt you see between the top of walls is temporary and will be spruce planks also.
Feel free to share your thoughts , ask any questions etc.

I think you should take the pool wall and make it into a set of terraces.
Embedded in the back wall? The original idea was to add fake sun loungers around the extension floor (Blue floor with white middle) and palm (jungle) trees or did you mean a small set like these?:
A set of them along the back wall might be nice. I've also gone to painterly.net and changed the grass and tree leaves textures, to create a seperate "Autumn" version of the texture pack, as this season is my favorite time of year.
The above is the only picture I've took so far. Just so I can tell which leave blocks in the old maze need changing.

A lava maze is an interesting idea. I may have to steal that.
I'm sure people have done it many times before. Scratch that, I know people have done it before. You won't be stealing anything
Also, keep in mind that lava likes to spread out on its source block, so I would sugest making a roof that only goes over the walkway bit so the lava doesn't make a huge mess.
A lava maze is an interesting idea. I may have to steal that.
I'd be interested to see the results if you did.
So something unexpected happened in my storage room.
As soon as you come down the stairs, on the immediate left there's a cobble & related chest wall, behind which is a "back room". This back room used to have a cobblestone generator in it, but since Alpha I have always dug a two-width path around lava pools, which is why I have so much cobble. When I built the generator is was one of those "Building it for the sake of building it", I never used it. Many many months ago, I removed the generator and just had lava falls encased in glass to back-light the cobble chests. (Which had glass behind them.) Extra lighting.
So as I was back in my storage room, I suddenly thought how pointless that back bit was and... what if I was to just incorporate it into the rest of the storage room! More space! Suddenly I wondered why I had never thought of this before and deactivated the lava falls and started build the back room out to eventually remove the cobble chest wall:
Works:
The obsidian floor was a pain to mine up, but the result feels like the extra bit has a bit of a curve to it. A bit of sorting and more snow in the roof later, it was done. Also the stairs coming down have always been two wide, but after the turn the last few steps down have always been one stair wide, so now I had room I changed them to two wide also.
Various storage implications resulted also. Opposite were this wall was, are a stack of single chests from top to bottom: bones, bonemeal, armor, tools and the last chest bows. Well, I've got so many bows of skeletons it had filled it's single chest and was spreading into the "Tools" single chest. So this changed has allowed me to move all of them over to the new extension area and give them a double chest at last. Similarly by the stairs, the single "Temporary Odds and ends" single chest (For temporary stuff I have on me that I might need - carpets, apples, healing potions for zombie villagers) has also moved to the double chest area as has the ender chest for my arrows with a new one right next to it.
In place of the old "Bow" single chest I now keep my sticks, which were also at the crafting bench by the stairs. The slight extension needs more glowstone of course, but I can also trade in my trading center for that. I also checked them on the way to the snow factory and back (Villagers in the trading area) and they're fine! I hadn't looked in on them in a while!

Recent investigations reveal a drastic cost cutting exercise at the welovetomine corp, but home owner leangreen76, the sentient Autobot from The Transformers franchise, denies any money problems after spending lavish amounts on glowstone for his private art gallery and new aquarium.
Stock picture: 4 years ago:
It comes after new development plans earlier this year were made to build a multi-emerald million Aquarium beneath the more recently opened trading center within the art museum. With hardened clay walls and the start of a similarly expensive lapis stained hardened clay floor, the project was abandoned speculating on the cost of the build. Already a rounded bay window under the sea bed had been build and filled with class., but once work started on the floor the new aquarium seemingly stalled, and no further work was done for a great amount of time.
How the Aquarium looked in the early build:
When asked leangreen76 replied, "sure I may be light on diamonds these days, but I've just come back from a massive nether expedition". That nether expedition funded a huge amount of glowstone in areas of the art gallery that were much needed., especially a small alcove extension to showcase the remaining ore artifacts - coal and diamond. All of a sudden work has now begun on the aquarium with the previously lapis stained clay floor being covered with a expensive, rich and vibrant blue carpet. Still the home owner denies cost cutting, "it's not a case of expense", said leangreen76, "It's just a case of what would be more durable for the floor" The question of why the sudden change from lapis stained clay floor to blue carpet continues to go unanswered.
Art gallery exhibits & the W.I.P Aquarium:
When pushed for whether his company welovetomine.corp has money problem, leagreen766 rrefused to comment and answer any remaining further questions. It has been suggested however that leaked documents reveal plans to condemn the current apartment block near his home and re-build it in a modern style, as well as a multi-billion plan to build a second science lab in his home that is three times bigger than the last housing 8 work stations. This all comes after earlier months of massive regeneration of Mount DOOOooom across the ocean.

Hmm... that looks alot like lava...
So basically, I'm stupid.
I was talking more about a terrace in the sense of a series of stepped setbacks, so that you would have a series of balconies overlooking the pool.
Lava tries and a lava maze, now there's an idea for Halloween!
