On my newest map I've been using Cartograph to find the biggest cave systems to explore. Is this considered cheating since I am making the game easier? Discuss.

That.
That.
"Is it cheating?" threads at this point basically boil down in my opinion to either:
A) I just bought this game impulsively without knowing what a sandbox game is. OR
:cool.gif: I have pretty low self-esteem, and I need random strangers to actively validate the ways I spend my free time alone.
Neither is very flattering, and neither is going to lead to a discussion that helps the beta community.

Przerwap, upon looking at some code I had just written: "...Gav... That's not how programming works."

Cartograph is as much cheating as using a fish finder or something. It's not as impressive, but nobody is going to blame you for getting to the bottom line.
On that note, Invedit would be akin to buying your fish and making a feast, instead of wasting the day on the lake.
1.If its cheating then now it isn't
2.If it isn't cheating then now it is.
3.Repeat 1 and 2 until you decide.
You choose your path.
Morally, I THINK IT IS CHEATING BECAUSE YOU ARE USING 3rd PARTY PROGRAMS WHICH MAKE YOUR EXPEREIENCE EASIER, YOU MIGHT AS WELL HACK IN THE ORES YOU MIGHT FIND.
blindsarcasm, I'M GLAD YOU PUT YOUR THOUGHTS ON CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE IT HELPED GET IT ACROSS TO ME.
It's all a matter of opinion. It's not the way the game was intended to be played, seeing as you're supposed to be going around, exploring and surviving. For me, I love that sense of discovery and exploration, so I wouldn't do it.
There is a difference between giving yourself artificial advantages in a game and figuring out a new way to play a game. An example of the former would be locating these caves with Cartograph, digging straight into them, and extracting all the ores, all with the mindset of "beating Minecraft." (As much as people will say it is just a sandbox game, Minecraft is set up to feel like you are winning over time, conquering the world.) A more extreme example would be to use this to easily find all the caves to light them, increasing the number of mob spawns outside the caves (although this can be justified for making something like a challenge/adventure map). On the other hand, if you use Cartograph because you enjoy spelunking and want more of it, by all means go ahead (although this defeats part of the satisfaction, as you no longer truly discovered the cave).
People really shouldn't care about how you personally play the game. Some people just like building, while others like adventuring or mining, some may, like you use a cartograph to find huge cave system or hack in bunches of TNT for their own personal entertainment. I really don't care at all.
I mean, try getting 13 stacks of coal in a MC week. trololololol jk

Are you being blindly sarcastic?
Well if you use the sand and/or gravel glitch it isn't cheating? ???:sad.gif: At least according to your definition.
Actually, to me, its not, I actually use it to get rid of those pesky zombie sounds. As long as it exploits some sort of game mechanic, which some call cheating, I am fine.

This. Play how you will, but it is cheating, since you're using external tools.
