I have a beast of a computer and MineCraft lags. I have narrowed down on the issue:
Chunk updates compared to Alpha are almost 3 times as often for me! I degraded to Alpha and can run any and every map just fine 300+ FPS on Far/Fancy. The chunks update every 10 seconds or so. In beta, on the other hand, chunks update every 2-4 seconds. I get up to 492 chunk updates in one second! My FPS is anywhere from 3-300 and that's on Fast/Normal!
Anyone else notice this? If so, do you have a remedy?
Specs:
i7 CPU
8192 MB of RAM
DirectX 11
NVidia GeForce GTS 240(x2)
Integrated RAMDAC
4096 MB of Memory
also, change graphics settings to fast, and fog distance to tiny.
open task manager --> find minecraft.exe --> rickt click, go to process --> right click process, set priority, high.

I have tried all of these to no avail. Thanks anyhow. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem/ a solution to it (they have to have it, obviously).
PS If I have 50 or so views, people are definitely interested/they have the same problem. They just have nothing to post.

i went from 20fps to well over 100. they work.

Or maybe your vague title makes them curious and then the stop giving a **** when they read further.
(Watch me get another warning from Moderatirs. Why oh why?)
Or, or, maybe you scared them off by being unnecessarily rude and unhelpful.
EDIT: Thanks for the help guys and the save will be uploaded in like 5 seconds. Oh and above poster, I know they work, they just don't help much. More like little to none. But that's just me.

I think I may have fixed it. I couldn't see any corrupted chunks like I could the other times I have fixed this, but there was some problem somewhere. Chunk updates would hang around 200-300 or so and framerate was really jittery as a result. I deleted all of the chunks except those you had built on and the problem seemed to go away.
Note:
- high chunk updates during changes in time of day (ie sunrise and sunset) are normal
- high chunk updates when walking a ways (loading new chunks) are normal
- high chunk updates when generating new terrain are normal
Thats GTS 240 times 2. For some odd reason Alienware goes a bit overboard to be sure it can play anything,
Congrats you bought the most expensive and poorly designed gaming computer ever, an Alienware. A GTS 240 isn't even recommended for bottom of the barrel gaming builds. Using them in SLI just makes me scratch my head..
As for the original issue i have no clue, update java, turn limit FPS on, reinstall the game, try messing with your core affinity settings. Not sure what to say about such a weird issue, could just be a typical Alienware glitch anyway. I've heard more then a few people complain a PC from them(or a laptop) was doing completely nonsensible things and ended up needing hardware replaced.

For you guys who may not know, I have built my computer from almost scratch. I got the MOTHERBOARD from alienware. The rest is optimized for RAM usage. A GTS 240 is just an old graphics card, it isn't suckish. I am upgrading soon and I can play MineCraft just fine on it. Plus, My FPS is well over 20 at some times while updating the chunks of this world. Normally, it is around 300 at all times. My graphics card isn't even bad for one, and two, I have 2 GTS 240's. Nothing else really is compatible with each other, hence the reason I have 2. When I upgrade, I have to find an affordable graphics that I can have side-by-side.
Oh and if you idiots think you can't have 2 graphics cards, just remember: HAND BUILT.
(I'm not calling you guys idiots, just saying that to whoever thinks that^^.)
Oh, and thanks for the save file. Hopefully it'll fix it.

How did you get a motherboard from alienware? They aren't manufacturers, infact all their parts are just regular(completely untouched) ones except for the custom case. All that makes me think is you bought a(ridiculously overpriced) alienware, and then you hand upgraded parts(even more money) for reasons i can't even begin to fathom.
On that note having two cards in SLI doesn't double the power, you get like 50% more speed if the game can take advantage of dual cards, the price you would pay for two GTS 240's could let you buy a single card thats about 2x better then them together.
Logic would suggest if you have an old card that you upgrade to a new one, not get two old ones. On that note Minecraft barely utilizes the video card at all, if you have good fps it's almost completely from the CPU. If you tried a modern game with that setup i think you'd be less then astonished by the performance was all i meant, it's hardly 'a beast.'
Ho Lee Cow.... You got a powerhouse. Totally unnecessary for this type of game. I see your issue. I used to get somewhere around 100-250 FPS on Far/Fancy when it was in Alpha. Now I get 40-80 FPS Far/Normal.
minecraft has weird specs when it comes to graphics cards, you need one with a good pixel fillrate, performance increases greatly within a certain range, the 240 is just below what is recommended on another thread that was trying to determine system requirements. ive since forgotten the exact numbers but the lower end is like 12 GP/s. it would help to upgrade to a 250 or 260 of the same product line,
BUT i think you said it started in beta, so it could be some other temporary glitch, so if it persists beyond the next update then its a problem specific to your machine and not just ones with similar specs.
maybe, have you changed any hardware recently?

if your on limewire, it's for some kind of illegal software, though what kind of illegal software you end up downloading is up to luck, not you.

This might come out a bit rude, but if I can play games like Crysis (on ultra high settings (automatically made this way when it looks through the specs)) and Garry's Mod, I'm pretty sure it's not my hardware. I have 8 CPU's in my rig, and they can utilize both graphics cards. I only got them because they can be used together. These together have doubled the capabilities. I might have forgot to mention (not sure) this set-up is a year old, so these cards were better together than any other NVidia's. I don't use ATI Radeons simply because my motherboard is a bit conflicting with ATI's standards. Its way over the top and ATI can't (more like won't) support it. I guess you are right, though. Now that I think about it, 2 (now) terrible graphics cards are worse than a good one. Oh, and I got through my neighbor, he works for DELL, who supplys Alienware with the parts. I said it was from Alienware because they ordered them and my neighbor took some off the line, trying to make cash on the side (I guess?).
Thanks for telling me about how bad it is now, though. I'm gonna upgrade soon.
Edit: I haven't changed a thing, above poster, but thanks. I knew the pixel fill rate was a little low. (No I didn't)
