okay, ive been fiddling with this for a day, and i think i may have built the most compact gattling gun with the most shots fired at once. it is only 5x5x5, but its deadly. here are some pictures of it in action:

okay, here is the tutorial for those of you that might want to try this out.
= redstone torch
= redstone dust
= dispenser
= switch

(NOTES: the switch should be placed on the side of the cobble.
To add a viewing station, dig a hole under the switch. now dig forward one block. you may watch as your enemy suffers a perilous hail of arrows! or eggs, if you prefer.)

(NOTE: to place the torches on top of the dispensers, get a dirt block 2 spaces above the dispenser. make sure that there are no blocks adjacent to the space you will be placing the torch in. now click on the dirt as if you are placing the torch on the bottom of it, and it will automatically go on top of the dispenser. then you can get rid of the dirt.)
well thats it. hope this was useful to some people, and please leave comments!
I hardly see why that maters tbh. It's just what I'm calling it instead of "most compact array of dispensers". I think that gating gun is a bit more catchy. No reason to hate.
um, im not sure you realized, but this is already fully automatic. the stick is a switch. just use that switch to turn it on/off. no need for the extra ticker. but thx for the input.
I apologize if this is some dumb mistake, but I've built it per the instructions twice now, and each time, I keep encountering a problem in which the red dusts stays activated with no regard for the switch implemented in the second step? Am I missing something? Have I made a stupid mistake? I've only used red stone for the most rudimentary things, such as doors and basic pressure plate traps.
Thanks. I can supply pictures of my set-up, but it is identical to the instructions.

My Grandmother passed away on Sunday, the 7th of August, 2011. I am taking an extended leave of absence in light of this. My apologies.
You all are making me wish I had taken pictures of my 25 dispenser gun wired to a 5 clock that I made before I deleted the world due to rage after a creeper got into my gun.
Also, Judasremains, make sure the torches are on the sides of blocks. Placement of your torches makes a HUGE difference.

Do you have a lovely bunch of coconuts? Do you have them all standing in a row? Are there big ones, small ones, some as big as your head?

Thank you, that was precisely the problem.
Wow, this thing is amazing.
I wish we could rig it to set off TNT with arrow strikes.

soul, im pretty sure im using a more efficient model of that. i added more torches to it so that when one burns out the other takes over.
and knight nice design. but the idea of this one is that it fires REALLY fast. i cant record it, but trust me, its like 5 rounds a second.

Place a block beside the dispenser, another on top. Place torches on those blocks. Remove.
Really like the design, can be set in a min or 2 and could kill people trying to go in a small hallway.
edit: nvm without torch on top 2 side top won't fire.

can be both sides but a block has to above it.

Damn a 5x5x5 is pretty compact. But really you should explain how to put the Redstone Torches on top of the Dispensers in your first post.
