A long while ago i used to have a world I worked on for weeks in the alpha days when suddenly the world bugged out and i could no longer access it
being a sad little boy, i deleted it
now in Beta i just started a new world, feeling as though i needed a fresh start.
i spawned as normal and as i turned around, i noticed a minecart track that looked familiar
wait a second, this is a new world...how is this possible?!
i looked in the direction the tracks were coming from, and there sat my glorious home that ive believed i had lost forever.
How is it possible that i spawned in an old save that had been deleted?
This also happened to me. I lost the world because my laptop shut down, then generated a new one like 2 months later. I shat myself when i spawned only to see a system of houses. I previously deleted Human+ mod and thought "Maybe i didn't uninstall it right." so I looked in around and saw no humans. Then, since it was significant, I realized that it was my old base.

Thank god, you have NO idea how hard it is to find 89.00 Flomax
Sometimes saved chunks aren't deleted and show up in newly started worlds. It could very well be that everything you explored is still there or only part of it. However the world seed is probably gone, try to explore new terretories you'll probably find the edge of your old world and a seam where it goes over into a new one.
i checked over everything thoroughly
everything was right where it should be..nothing was missing...i was so shocked xD
i even recognized some land formations
The exact same thing happened to me and its in tragic story form
After i bought minecraft i jumped in happily, Eventually the new world i had grown to life was erased in a crash. Another world i made was crashed so i made a third world with just a simple cabin. I suddenly see torches and run to it to find its my old house and the area around it! Just as i could barely finish my joy CRASH and....The end.

I know. What I mean is. Go and check beyond where you explored. Travel further then before. I'll bet you anything you'll find a seam
Holy crap, I was just about to make a thread about this same exact thing! Many months ago, I had a map where I experimented with diagonal-grid mining and built a Mayan pyramid on top of the mine entrance. Then I erased it and started over with a new project, involving a hugeass hollowed-out tree trunk in the middle of a castle. After many days spent mining and building in my new world, I decide to explore for a bit, and notice what look like torches in the distance... and lo and behold, there's my old Mayan pyramid on top of my old mine. WTF!?!
