Sigh. So much hate, so many pedants for a thread about peaceful mode...
Its my sandbox, I'll play the way I want to, and I like being able to change it at whim!
Yes, I did read the whole 10 pages...
->Implying that I even use "peacefull" mode.
Oh, wait I don't. silly me
and yes, i've read the read.
and no, that is not cheating.
Minecraft SP-mode has no so-called "cheats".
p.s
This is not a "opinion" its a fact.
You can't have a "opinion" on what a word means.
Switching from hard to peaceful , lazy? yes.
Cheating? no
By your definition using the toggle-able 'cheats' in MW or Goldeneye, or any games that have them, isn't considered cheating. Since it doesn't subvert the gameplay, its built into it.
Textbook definitions are bad.
For somebody who insults others for not reading the thread, you yourself sure fail at it yourself.
I mentioned that minecraft itself has no cheats. " has no so-called "cheats"."
Notch never said it was not "intended".
When you switch from hard/normal/easy to peaceful, mobs will despawn.
This is done on purpose(I think).
It could also have been coded, to not de-spawn the mobs.

games like GT/empire earth/AoE do.
On what grounds can you say they have cheats? I thought we're using the textbook definition, no?
its only cheating if its competitive, peaceful mode isnt cheating, boom.
(no i didnt read the whole damn thread, im sure its 99% irrelevant flaming anyways)
although you could say your competing against the monsters and such.
in response to that though, if you turn on peaceful, then your no longer competing against the monsters. because they cease existing. you arent giving yourself an unfair advantage in a competition, your simply temporarily removing the entire competitive element, because you arent in the mood for competition.
you do whatever you feel like doin, whenever you want, its just a game, do whatever makes it more fun for you.

if your on limewire, it's for some kind of illegal software, though what kind of illegal software you end up downloading is up to luck, not you.
"its my game i can do what i want" isn't a forum arguement.
That is exactly the argument. The reason you can't acknowledge that is because your authoritarian personality type compels you to believe that there are "right" and "wrong" ways to do everything, including play a single-player sandbox game. You know what we call that attitude? Fascism.
Your arguments over the last 10 pages (Yes, I've read them) can be summed up as "ur doin it wrong becuz ur not doin it the way I do." And you call other peoples' arguments illegitimate, as if you have the slightest clue what you're talking about. Go away.
So did you have an actual arguement or just "my opinion is right yours is wrong, because i don't like what you're saying."
I've given some logical facts about the game and how it works on the other pages.
I don't remember survival suddenly becoming sandbox.

The developers actually call them "cheats".
You can't cheat without breaking the rules.
Either that, or the developers of the game, actually put in a feature called "cheats".
Minecraft has no such thing.
It even removes those mobs on purpose(Hint : if it wasn't intended, the mobs would not de-spawn)
This is getting retarded.
Goodbye good sir, I'll shall be leaving this ungodly piece of a turd they call a thread.

Label is irrelevant, they call difficulty difficulty but these folks don't seem to think that means it has to be difficulty. By your textbook definition, 'cheats' are part of gameplay, so they are as little cheating as someone flipping between difficulties.
Sounds dumb when someone uses the same logic you're trying to use against you, huh?
satharis: this isnt a debate thread okay, now everyone and their mother knows how you feel about switching difficulties in game so please just chill, no one is going to be changed by you repeating your personal ideals on a forum thread.

You can only cheat in a SP-game, if the game has cheat codes.
Minecraft, again, has no such thing.
Unless Notch/the minecraft team h imself/themselves stated that A. switching difficulty to de-spawn mobs is cheating, which would mean the mobs de-spawning on peaceful was not intended(abusing the game mechanics) or B. they implanted cheat codes.
Ofcourse, if we go purely by the definition of cheating :
cheat (cht)
v. cheat·ed, cheat·ing, cheats
v.intr.
1. To act dishonestly; practice fraud.
2. To violate rules deliberately, as in a game: was accused of cheating at cards.
3. Informal To be sexually unfaithful: cheat on a spouse.
4. Baseball To position oneself closer to a certain area than is normal or expected: The shortstop cheated toward second base.
n.
1. An act of cheating; a fraud or swindle.
2. One who cheats; a swindler.
3. A computer application, password, or disallowed technique used to advance to a higher skill level in a computer video game.
4. Law Fraudulent acquisition of another's property.
5. Botany An annual European species of brome grass (Bromus secalinus) widely naturalized in temperate regions.

I'm countering their arguments, how is that me trying to change anything? Anyway they all think they have gang mentality or something i could go make a thread called "Is hard difficulty more skillfull then peaceful" and it'd get the total opposite response as this thread.

I'm just pointing out the facts here good sir, no need for petty insults.

Well first off your first comment is wrong, you can hack a game and edit your files or use something like gameshark to memory edit, that could be considered cheating. And the only reason you think your arguments before had any ground at all is "you're arguing with fact, not opinion, i have a textbook definition" well, you just pasted the textbook definition.
Unfortunately as i stated earlier in this thread, the word 'cheating' by definition doesn't apply to video games, because video games don't have a rulebook, so everyone trying to use a definition against me is already wrong.
I've never played on peaceful myself, I usually play on normal. I don't see any shame in switching to peaceful, it is a game after all. Build a ****ing mountain fortress without worrying about mobs if you want to.

I don't see your supposed insult there. You're also pointing out opinion, but okay, i guess logic is easy to change on the fly if it makes you sound right.

And yes, video games do have rulebooks.
Created by whom you might ask?
By the developers.
You can't cheat(by definition) in a single-player game.(going purely by definition here).
You cannot change the meaning of a word to better suit your agenda.
You can call it whatever else you want, lazy, noobish, weak etc..
But not cheating.
It never is, and never will be cheating.
No matter how much you think it is.
You, good sir, remind me of those who think "atheism" is a religion, They also change the meaning of a word.
I have two worlds. One I have is for doing the whole survival thing where I play on normal, the other file is for building where I put it on peaceful. When you're cooking up cleanstone and creepers are blowing it up all the time, it gets annoying. Building at night saves time too.
Its my sandbox, I'll play the way I want to, and I like being able to change it at whim!

I rest my case.
That doesn't make any sort of sense whatsoever but, whatever floats your boat buddy.
You don't know what a sandbox game is, do you....
You poor, sick, person.
