This is a competition / fun / building idea thread. You wont win anything, but hopefully Notch will see this when he gets around to adding villages, and will get a few ideas.
This is a fun building activity, not something that will definitely happen.
Note: THIS IS NOT A SUGGESTION THREAD, YOU BUILD A VILLAGE FOR FUN.
Here's the format ( you don't have to answer all questions, and you can change it up however you want!)
Mob that builds and survives in this village (can be made up or existing):
What they produce and trade with you:
What style buildings do they make and out of what material:
If they hunt or not:
If they wander and create more villages, then moving in the children and spreading:
If they are a : (mountain) (plain) (cave) (forest) (tundra) (underwater cave / glass dome) (island) (nether) tribe (where they are found)
If they have pets:
The type of pets:
How they speak to you:
How you would go about trading with them:
PICTURES!!!
Ill post mine in a few, I'm excited to see what the community comes up with! You can also add whatever things you want to it.
Edit: This isn't a serious "Oh the Ai cant build that!" thing. Its more as a OOOh fun idea! thing.
I think it would be awesome if he coded some normal humans, like the ones he had in some earlier versions (You can hunt up the article on the minecraft wiki, I'm just too lazy right now) with the same outfit as the default miner, but with different colored hair/shirt. I don't see how villages would work, I think he'll start with just lone hermits (like the player) that builds a generally nondescript house out of basic materials. They can be affected by mobs and stuff, and (hopefully) wouldn't screw with your stuff. I guess there would be a menu similar to the chest menu for trading goods. That's how I imagine he'll code it.
I've always thought of something similar to above-ground dungeons; for example a small wooden house with a chest inside and three to four of that specific mob.
i think that they should have an ai so they make a small house then start building basic things like a farm, castle/larger house. Also, i think that you should have a reputation that is changed by giving them things (putting it in a chest/ put it in front of them) or stealing from them and this would make them peaceful so they won't bother you or hostile where they will attack you like current mobs.
Behavior: Neutral, attacking monsters that come too close, however...
- If you destroy land around them, they become hostile
- If you destroy their homes, they become hostile
- If they see you steal from chests in their huts, they become hostile
- If you hurt them, they become hostile
Attributes: Varied
- They are the only thing besides the player that can spawn torches, and villages usually have a few of them
- They are the only thing besides the player that can create fertile soil and farm, with at least one small wheat farm near each village
- They can use many tools, digging themselves out of traps with shovels and picks, farming with sickles, and attacking with swords (or axes if in a forest biome)
- Their appearance varies between their home biomes:
- Normal: Standard pig coloring
- Forest: Slightly darker, with patches of grey
- Desert: Tan color, resembling a boar
- Snow: Very pale, with spots of black
- Will rarely interact with players unless provoked, but will sometimes walk up and drop an item as a gift as long as none of the village's members are hunting the player. This depends on the biome they are in:
- Normal: Feathers, wheat, seeds, sometimes bread
- Forest: Sticks, logs, mushrooms, saplings, sometimes apples
- Desert: Glass, clay, flint, coal, sometimes iron
- Snow: Snowball, fish, cooked fish, cloth, sometimes paintings
- All: Very rarely a diamond, if you have never angered them
- In all cases, if you add items to their chests instead of removing them, they will give you better gifts the more you give them
- Giving them gifts can also cause them to forgive past hostilities
The village made by the people on BlueXephos' youtube Multiplayer Survival Let's Play. btw if you're looking for a good Let's Play type in BlueXephos on Youtube. :smile.gif:

I like the idea! You don't really have to follow the format, it was just a starter if people were stuck. Im doing this as a fun project. I like the simplicity.
My vote: Small, rare villages made out of several identical dirt or wood houses (or possibly cobble/mossy cobble). These would be populated with a few HOSTILE humanoids that would attack you on sight. As a reward for looting them, they would contain chests with better booty than that of dungeons.
My greatest wish for this game is ZERO friendly humanoids. If I want NPCs, I will go play another game. One of the best parts of Minecraft for me is the feeling of isolation, the knowledge that I have an incredibly expansive world to myself. If this is ever changed, a large part of the beauty of the game will be lost forever, at least in my eyes.
Even zombie pigmen are stretching it, but at least they stay in the Nether where they belong.
I think it would be cool if, alongside mob villages, there were remnants of ancient mob villages (cobblestone and mossy cobblestone) inhabited by the now skeletal people who don't know they're dead yet. Okay, maybe they do know, either way is fine.
I know this is off topic, but how would I post pictures so I can show what I would want villages to be like? Don't you add something like /img or something like that to the link of a photo?

There's actually a button on the toolbar above the text box that says "Img".
A three-five building village made of wood planks with Human mobs or Humanoid mobs that run to their houses when you come by. You would have to let them know that you are friendly by either leaving items for them or killing hostile mobs near their village. You can become enemies with them by killing their members or destroying their houses.
If befriended: you could recruit a village member to help you collect wood/fish/mine/kill hostile mobs/ect., sometimes they will give you some bread if you stay friendly with them long enough.
If your an enemy to them: They will attack you if you venture near their village and will sometimes send someone to attack you.
If you help them build a castle in their village, they will automatically be friends with you and they will develop into a mideval style village with 10-15 houses made of cobblestone and planks. There could be a market stall near the castle with various produce blocks on it. A shop system perhaps?
Mideval towns will have a large cobblestone wall with a walkway for archers to shoot hostiles from with a moat rarely filled with lava if it is an underground town with the 10-15 houses placed inside the walls with the castle in the middle of the town.
and i was hoping to see super-secure house and strong pigman with swords.
type of pigmen-
-territorial (kill if in house)
-greedy (kill and collect drops)
-friendly (like zombie pigmen, attack when hit, and attack when stuff stolen or house is being destroyed)
type of houses
-wood (easy to burn )
-brick (hard to break fast)
-obsidian

1. Some times some blocks take a while to light on fire. I think. Idk.
2. I hate your life too.
how awsome would it be if there was multiple towns that expanded over time??? and you could destroy some towns and they wouldnt come back, or build houses and they would take them if you left an item in it for them? then you could rule a city and destroy other ones you didnt like. default houses would start the same as all the other posts, but you could upgrade them by building on them. oh and you could turn towns on and off, or the expanding of them, for all those picky people lol
I rather like the idea of there not being any large cities, just these small villiages, it would fit the feel of the game better. I'm not to sure about the specifics, they should probably be rarish, and not come back if you kill everyone there (duh.) How much they should interact with you would be another thing to sort out. Having some proper trading mechanic would be great, maybe with the villagers prizing materials that they don't have access to, ie: being able to trade iron to some villiagers who live on an island in exchange for large amounts of clay (just an idea.)
This is a fun building activity, not something that will definitely happen.
