58. When mining obsidian, sometimes there will be lava under it and you could lose the block. An easy way to avoid this is to dig the block adjacent to it, place water on it and then dig the obsidian. When the block breaks water will fill it rapidily, turn the lava underneath into obsidian and your mined block will be safely floating on it (acctualy works for any ore if it is directly above lava).

4.when exploring caves always put torches on the right!
continue!
Why?
When torches are always put on the right, exiting the cave is easy; all torches will be on the left. When there are open areas in a cave and you need to light it, place torches on unnatural blocks (wool, wood, etc). I also use redstone torches to periodically mark north.
Everyone has their own preference when way-finding underground.
61. If you are mineral poor, you can whack most of the way through stone with an iron pick, and fast-switch to a stone pick to finish it. The durability damage is taken on what finishes the block.
62. Make mining less painful. Spend time finding/making a good texture pack. Play music you enjoy. Alternatively, there are great (free) courses to listen to on iTunes University. (Which can be found at the exact bottom of the iTunes store)
#38) Don't use TNT -- while it does make big holes real fast, its also possible to destroy whatever it hits. So if you hit a vein of 5 diamonds, the TNT could destroy 3 of those 5!
I disagree. You may destroy some, but the wear and tear you save of your tools outweighs this.

Don't stand against a corner with lava.. it will sometimes catch you on fire even though it's not touching you.
When mining an ore/obsidian that you don't want to lose, stand right next to it as close as possible. when it breaks, you will auto pick the item no matter what direction it pops out. (except sometimes red dust. I occasionally lose a piece)

It depends whats easier for you to get as well -- if you're cheating an invediting, then it doesn't really matter. If you're getting TNT the 'real' way, then its much more rare then diamonds. Need 5(?) gunpowder to make 1 tnt block, which destroys 9-12(?) blocks -- while 3 diamonds can mine 1024 blocks.
Sure, if you have a huge mob trap like that guy, you can get TNT, but theres still a very real risk of destroying those rare diamonds and iron. I'm not sure if I entirely buy it.
Also, your link doesn't really prove your argument about the wear and tear. Finally, What else are you using diamonds for if not for tools? Its already been established that diamond armor isn't really worth using...so....

If you stand in the water, it'll push you along as you mine, so you can just hold down the mouse button and mine through the line of obsidian. Just make sure to add a new bucket full of water every few squares, you don't want to be pushed beyond the point that water flows :smile.gif:. Then your goose gets COOKED!
65. Save those ladders! If you wanna get right to the bedrock, but are running short on ladders, use one every other block.
I've actually found a technique that requires a ladder only every three blocks. Did you know that you can actually step on the top of ladders and jump? Put one down, climb to the top of it, and place another ladder on a different wall. Then you can jump up to reach that one.
Sort of like that, if that makes any sense. It wouldn't have to be spiral shaped. Obsidian=back wall.
It's not as fast as ladder-every-two-blocks, but it is slightly more converative.
67. When you are at the end of the lava pool, look around for areas where the lava goes under the rocks. Dig around there, and you might find another lava-level cave system.
71.- Make your main storage in safe place, ssssSSSSssssSSSSS is the terror in storages and dont use lava of fire.
72.- When dig a diagonal stair to the very down of the map make a space for stairs and rails for future railroads.
73.- Put sand, above a fenche, remove sand and put a fence under previous fance, put a block up the two fences and some torches and you have a lampost:

How exactly are you supposed to see clouds when you are underground?
