hit space while in a cart, your cart slows down. simple.
mostly because when my powered cart pushes me down one of my ramps, i get enough speed to get far enough ahead that it becomes unloaded from the game, and have to go back to the area to get it re-loaded.
if you dont want the cart to go far, just put a blockage on the track
i do want it to be able to go far, i just want the powered cart to be able to keep up.
the best way to implement that would be being able to link the carts, but that is probably much more work then notch would want to do at this moment, and i would rather he continue to work on multi-player
so, as a good temporary solution, make the jump key act as a break for ride able minecarts. code wise, this should be much easier to implement as there is already examples of it in the game to draw from.
would also give players a greater control for unpowered minecart rides.
I approve. But in order for this to be truely viable one of two things needs to happen. Either powered carts need to be made more powerful or we need some other form of powering a cart, such as windmills or waterwheels or both. As it is I power my carts using the a boost glitch. A single booster can sent a car kilometers almost with out end. It would be nice to be able to throw on the breaks and stop the cart where I want to, but I'd have to walk back because I only have/need boosters at the ends of my lines. And that's a long walk from some points in my rail system.
Maybe the carts should be linkable together, so that you can place the cart you sit in right next to the push cart, and they stay linked instead of bumping each other, so that you can easily turn around and turn off the push cart when you reach your desired destination.
Better yet, once the carts are linked, I think you should be able to control the entire chain with your keyboard. Forward, reverse, and stop could all be functions bindable to certain keys.
