I've always thought Zombies should be able to tear down dirt, leaves, wood, wooden doors, fences, sand, gravel, wool, hit TNT (new trap idea, maybe??), and glass.
Anything else (Logs, stone, cobblestone, gems) they'd have to really work at, and would tear down stone maybe as quickly as we break Obsidian with our bare hands (50+ seconds).

For them, Obsidian would be impenetrable.
And imagine is Spiders could climb walls...
O.O
Yes. Spiders should climb walls.
I'm still sticking with the idea that they ignore "natural" blocks, like logs or dirt. Just the blocks that don't occour in nature like cobblestone or planks. But then there will be stronger materials you can use. Keep in mind zombies are breaking things with their hands. Have you ever tried breaking a cobblestone brick with your hands? You can do it, but it takes a while. Or a door. Not as long, but still a little while.
Yes, glass would be next to worthless UNLESS you built it recessed in your wall where the zombie can't get to it right away. This wouldn't wreck minecraft but it would change the way you build things.
You're right that this would make the first night especially tough. So maybe zombies shouldn't spawn on the first night. Or maybe knocking stuff down wears a zombie down, so that by the time they destroy that cobblestone they drop dead from exhaustion. No threat to you, but there's a hole in your wall. A wood door they could survive the encounter, but you'd be able to finish them off easy. Glass they'd walk through like air, barely a scratch.
I love the idea and think that ONLY zombies can break down blocks ( only weak blocks though wood planks, trees, glass, dirt, sand, gravel, cobblestone(since cobblestone is broken stone which means it's already half broken). Allowing other mobs to follow suit, Keeping that ALL mobs are attracted to torchlight. So when your hiding in your house a mobs are attracted to the light a zombie breaks your door down and you get attacked by a small army, This should only happen on normal/hard. on easy zombies shouldn't be able to break down ANY blocks.
And for those who say that this is unfair and their being punished for liking how wood looks as building material,Then build a small wall of cobble in a large perimeter and turn your bunch of wood buildings into a giant F$^#ing castle that looks amazing(it's not like cobble stone is rare, it's more common and easier to get then wood is) if you mine in any way I'm certain you have like 100 stacks of 64 in chest's.
If you are bored because mobs don't pose much of a threat when you are in a secure location (i.e your base), just do what I do:
Make a large artificial forest in a 100x100 area and use INVedit to place lots of monster spawners all around the area. The next step is to jump in when you are bored and fight for your life. I call it my Arena Room. :biggrin.gif:
On topic, I am not a supporter of this idea. Adding stronger, more dangerous mobs that spawn at night and a very persuasive reason to go out at night are what I think should happen.

Why would a zombie break down a door if it didn't know you were inside?
I propose that they only break down doors if they're already following you/can see you.
Yes... have it be when they are in attack mode only.

I support this, they should start digging (at one third of the player speed with bare hands) if they follow you and is blocked.
Also, when they see you, they moan should make other zombies (within a radius) join them. This could lead to several zombies digging at one spot, offsetting their slow speed if you don’t resolve the threat.

I think zombies should be able to break down wooden doors, dirt, gravel, and glass. This would give you a reason to build iron doors and not just make a dirt wall. Although, I can see the argument against this being new players would have a tougher time surviving the first night. Now this may sound good to us older players but I have seen a lot of people use dirt and wooden doors for their first house.
Maybe have a different type of zombie that only spawns like 50% of the time. This way you don't just have a bunch of zombies attacking you.

Well if those newer players get there walls up and hide before a zombo sees them then they are fine if it only happens when targeted.
It would also cut down on those massive glass structures that seem to be rampant on my server.

I like this idea, but only if the zombies beat at your door if they're directly after you. I don't want to be off somewhere mining and find that my house has been broken into.
It would also add a bit more threat to the zombies, as right now I see them as the least dangerous of all the enemies in the game (apart from the slimes, which I've still not seen any sign of...).
Again, this could just be a good idea for the proposed zombie siege mode, but even in normal mode it could be a nice dynamic. It would also give a better reason to create lava moats.
Let me send you my castle.
I have something like 300 slimes boinging around outside... T_T

Nah, I say let all zombies be able to do it.
It creates a nice learning curve, teaching the players not to rely on easy breakable blocks to create fortifications.
Also zombies are relative easy, providing a thrilling but not impossible challenge the first couple of times, yet making them a small threat thru-out the game.

LOL too true... would also give a reason for all those castles of cobble I build with half slab arrow slots and stair peepholes.... what I'm not paranoid.
“One little piggy made a shack out of dirt, and was eaten the first day.
The second made a house out of planks, and was blow away (when a creeper snuck up while he was fighting zombies).
The third made a citadel out of rocks, with walls to shot from and lava moat, most monsters learn the hard way that you don’t mess with this little piggy.”

I don't much like the "give mobs block destruction capabilities" model of increasing difficulty, since it lowers the all-important player motivation to create and build. I'm all for other ways of giving mobs other was of circumventing player defenses, though, like wall-climbing and flight.
Quite frankly, I think that in a perfectly designed fortress, players should be completely invulnerable. But I also think a perfectly designed fortress should be much more difficult to come by than just making a 3 meter wall with an outward-set door.
Increasing mob complexity boosts player motivation to set up more elaborate defenses, which aids the core focus of creativity the game has. Having mobs destroy defenses does the opposite.
Honestly, I'm building my forts in preparation for possible future updates (Wall Climbing, destruction capabilities, tunnel diggers, flying mobs, etc) so Notch can put in whatever he wants, I'm safe.
I think this is a great idea for putting a new edge to survival, as right now it isn't really survival at all. If not zombies, then perhaps some other mob that can break doors and weak walls. Thumbs up!

It's an ungodly aggravation in Terraria. I don't want it here as well.
so during an eclipse zombies have their true potential to always spawn in groups there attacks are tougher and they could breack down wood!
