well i got t his very violent idea from playing the tinkers construct mod by mdiyo. i felt that the long sword was too plain. i always wished that players can lose limbs, just like in real life.
Mechanics:
well it is quite simple: all you need to do is aim your crossheirs at the player's limbs, click and boom! their amputated. It would be quite brutal, especially for young girls and boys.
Note: this is not a mod request! it is simply a thought i had for many years now, thanks for reading.

Er the main reason why Mine Craft has remained Child Friendly is because there is not a lot of violence in the game, if they added full violence in game, man there would be a lot of critics out there, putting down MC. So No Support from me XD

Well, as violent as can be with cubes and pixels. However, I am not very fond of hacking players to pieces. That's what Bilbo Baggins hates.

There are things known as the 10 Suggestion Commandments. Many know the obvious, such as, "Thou shalt search before typing thy post," or, "Thou shalt not be vague," but one that no one knows is, "Thou shalt organize thy post." More people need to know of this commandment.
Unnecessary, and would completely change minecraft. Zero support. Even if this game wasn't mainly played by kids I wouldn't support it. If you need gore for some weird reason go to some flash game site, random pointless blood and guts seems to be flash game designers' fetish.
Even though I like a little blood and gore, here and there, I don't think minecraft should have dismemberment.
and besides if it only takes aiming my crosshair at the other players arm, then I can win a PVP in just two blows, one to the arm holding the sword, and another one to the leg so he/she doesn't escape
