100% support. It may also be nice to add gold minecarts (gold is denser than iron and does more damage but goes slower). The only problem I see is that you would need to reconstruct the hitbox for minecarts and make them not do damage when being pushed. Maybe the first player to touch the minecart will not be damaged until the minecart is over 2 blocks away or until the minecart stops when another player can touch it to avoid damage. When someone rides the minecart, the person who touched the minecart and the rider don't take damage. That would, however, require a multiple NBT tags that are constantly being redefined... hmmm...
Minecarts killing mobs would create a whole new way to make automated machines. But like you said when a mob is hit by the minecart they drop no items! However they should add the ability to strap someone to a rail so you can happily run them over in your brand new minecart!
I think minecarts should deal damage based on their speed at impact. Maybe 20% of the speed should be lost to the impact and converted to damage and launch force, however if the cart is unable to push the entity out of the way of the rails, the entirety of the speed will be lost and converted to damage and launch force.
It would be pretty hilarious if a chicken was on the rail when you came screaming across at top speed. You could pick up the loot on the way back!

I want ocean content(thanks Möjang!), nether biomes, and savanna passive mobs.
