One issue I've always had with this game is that nothing can be uncrafted.
Obviously allowing this to be done with durability-limited tools would be quite
open to exploits, but it seems like it could work well enough with placed blocks.
The hammer would be crafted as so:
It does the same damage as a stone sword and has a 50% knockback bonus, but
attacking with it drains 2 durability instead of 1 and its real use is uncrafting blocks.
When you break a craftable block with the sledgehammer, the block drops all of the
components used to build it.
(And possibly only half of the components in hardcore mode, like in Don't Starve)
Seems like a very good idea, but I'm just trying to think if there's any blocks for which this would be somehow overpowered.

It would be interesting to see how bad griefing would get if this was implemented.

1 Year ago the military was on the losing side of the war. All seemed bleak until one soldier brought a penguin in to training. They had trained that penguin in the use of explosives and sent him out into the field. They had thought that they had won but the agent went rouge. Now he only lives on as a legend, the legend of ShotgunPenguin.
How does this work on items such as stairs that have an input of six units and an output of four? You can't make a stair drop one and a half wooden planks. Would it drop a wooden plank and a wooden slab?

It should be 2 slabs. You would get 7 planks from your idea.

What? Would it really mater that much more if someone broke your beacon with a sledgehammer and stole all of the parts than if they broke it with a pickaxe and stole the whole thing? The beacon is as good as gone forever either way, and if you do happen to find the thief's base, you could still just take the supplies and rebuild it, it's not like you have to pay Mojang $10 every time you use the crafting table.

Same here. It seems like they don't want nether quartz blocks uncrafted, but I din't see why not.|
No uncrafting cake

I was questioning it, not proposing it. However in your method the return value is 4 planks, not the original 6. Do you see the point I'm raising now?
Although, having it yield a lesser return isn't such a bad idea.

This is a valid point, it could lead to unlimited anvils, but maybe it could drop less and less iron the more it is used? Btw i support!
