Just saying: this is my perspective of unsubredun's Biomes idea. if you haven't read his article, make sure you do, even just for the pics. note that I'm not trying to copy, but simply build upon the idea from my perspective. okay?
and if you think i copied something, well, i didn't. these are my original ideas, which i connected to unsubredun's ideas.
Alright, my idea of landforms is pretty simple. there are plenty of landforms, some being deserts, forest mountains, etc. and each one is sort of like it's own, "world". let me explain: lets say in the desert, there could be a higher spawn rate of spiders, but a lower spawn rate of slimes and zombies. other then mobs, it would also have different lighting then say a forest, and maybe different texture then beach sand. maybe notch can even add a "heat" factor, making it so that you cant stay too long in the desert, or you will lose hearts. also, another idea i have in mind is pre-set fog. if you are in the hot, windy desert, then there should be a lot of flying sand, or fog in the world of mine craft. so every time you go into a desert, the maximum render distance is short. this will provide a more realistic theme so "worlds"
when i say worlds i don't mean levels within the server, i mean that if you go far enough into the infinite map, you will encounter a desert. alright, now here is a list of what landforms i think there should be, and what kind of effects each one would have, etc.
-HUGE mountains made of mostly rock, and getting high enough would make it snow.(make snowballs, etc.)
-the higher you go up a mountain, the stronger the snow and the more fog.
-high spawn rate for skeletons(maybe notch should make yeti's?)
-much less pigs, sheep, cows, etc. the higher you go
-maybe a frostbite factor?(stay to long lose hearts)
-many waterfalls, lots of ice.
- all blocks would have a lighter appearance, with a blue tint
-Flat, plains of mostly sand;
-Oasis'(plural for oasis)
-pretty short render distance.
-high spawn rate for spiders
-cows and pigs randomly scattered.
-some shrubs where you would find snakes(new mob?)
-lighting would be yellowish-orange, and when looking rather far you would see stuff like looking through smoke, where everything is like a mix, i don't know what its called. like when looking far off on a hot day, you know?
- hills, rivers, dense trees.
-large hills, jungle-caps( small, treeless areas)
- far render distance
-high spawn rate for zombies and creepers
-pigs, cows, and sheep are often found in jungle-caps
-source of berries(if they will be added)
-lighting would be the same as minecraft 1.0.11, just maybe a bit darker.
-Flat land, some trees, lots of grass, few hills.
-water pools(basically swamps)
-medium render distance
-many cows and sheep, less pigs.
-faster farming rate then anywhere else.
- high spawn rate for zombies and slimes(slimes from the swamps.
-lighting is the same as minecraft 1.0.11
Alright, that pretty much it. remember, if you think i copied idea's from someone else, i didn't. these are purely my ideas, and they are not very hard to come up with, so there prob is a topic about this somewhere. however, i must give credit to unsubredun, for starting out this idea. this really is just my perspective of what you called biomes.
