Seems like an interesting idea, and it kind of makes sense. Support.

There are things known as the 10 Suggestion Commandments. Many know the obvious, such as, "Thou shalt search before typing thy post," or, "Thou shalt not be vague," but one that no one knows is, "Thou shalt organize thy post." More people need to know of this commandment.
It's always bugged me that note blocks can only play short notes. In the long run, I hope they overhaul the note block system so you can play different length notes by using comparators.
However I'd take short choir sounds over none at all. Minecraft composers would just make do, the same way they do what they can with short notes from other instruments.
Or what if note length depended on pulse length? I know that would mess up a lot of note block stuff now, but people will figure it out.
Or what if note length could be controlled from the note block itself, that'd be the best option.
Maybe when played in the Nether the choir sounds like screaming, but when played in the Overworld it's more like a traditional choir, as though the souls trapped in the sand have finally found rest in a place that is almost heavenly by comparison.
Since many people have complained about mixing the nether and peaceful-sounding choir music, I propose that vanilla wool should be used instead of soul sand. Changing the color of wool will have no effect on the sound of the note block. Either way, Support!

Choir music always struck me as a bit creepy actually. Not upbeat gospel music of course, but the harmonic type usually sung in latin.

I do tend to agree with this actually. Mojang may or may not use creepy choir music, and the latin form isn't nearly as creepy if it is made up of several short note block-length segments. Still, I will have to agree with you on this.
Also, if anyone can find some choir music they particularly like (with no copyright of course), feel free to link it here and we will be one step closer to having this be easy to implement by the Mojang team.
I like the whole choir sounds thing, It adds suspense and thrill when you put it in your base.

Baseball, then Minecraft.

I'm just a Minecraft player that likes to give my opinion. Nothing special to see here.

Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
This will add TONS of new music possibilities if it is added. Excellent idea! I hope Mojang sees this!
Then put normal sand on top of another block without gravity. Is it really that hard?
