Whenever you go to sleep, and wake up the next morning, everything is completely the same, as if the time stopped.
Now my suggestion is: once you're sleeping, everything keeps going. Things get cooked, plantations grow up...
+The thing is everything progresses (plantations, furnace smelting, etc.), but as half as fast as if you stayed up all night.
-Hostile mobs spawn but with lower rate (65% less than the normal rate)
-If you sleep without protection between your bed and hostile mobs, you could get woken up by some. Also if you are on hard mode and you have a wooden door, zombies could wake you up at your house (if nothing is between the entrance they went trough and your bed)
This is a little overpowered. Right now, youcango to bed to skip the night, or stay up to let your stuff progress. This would remove that balance from sleeping. No support.
And that's exactly why I think is useful.
I don't see why it should be overpowered, though... unless you have a really unsafe house...
Well, it doesn't matter, is your opinion.
am 50% right now i think there should be a balance between sleeping and staying up. you decide to go to sleep you skip the night but nothing happens (no plants grow, nothing smelts) or decide to risk it and stay up at night and things happen (plants grow, things smelt) i think this is the best way but on the other hand i like the risk of sleeping where a zombie or skelly had a chance to spawn and attack you, that way then time does skip when you sleep so again am 50/50 on this

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
for this to work, you'd need to simulate around 7 minutes of gameplay (the length of night) in a few seconds to appear seamless, otherwise you're better off just staying up. I don't know about you, but I don't think my computer can handle gameplay thats 60x faster.
Then again, part of it could just be a % chance based on difficulty, regional difficulty, and moon phase to determine if a zombie spawns and starts breaking down your door, something spawns and wakes you up, etc.
In short, not sure if this would work to the full extent suggested.

No I will not +1 you unless you say something worth +1ing. Respect is earned, not given.
What is there to balance? Its no harder to stay up to let your things progress, only more tedious. Its not like you are forced to go outside whilst you wait for furnaces / crops to finish, nor do you have to stay up during the night at all whilst they finish, because you can skip the night and then wait in the day. Tediousness does not equal difficulty. If anything, this suggestion makes the game MORE difficult due to now making you vulnerable to mobs whilst asleep.
The point is to save up some real-life time instead of having to stare at the screen waiting for things to happen.
To balance that positive addition, you have the posibility of hostile mobs waking you up.
No support. All you have to do is get tons of ore (or meat) and a bunch of furnaces, then smelt it over night. Then you automatically get all of it really quick.

I'm surprised at you! I would expect a ghast hunter to be a little more thorough in his posts!

Ok. So, you mine tons of iron ore (like, maybe 3 stacks) I don't know. Maybe you're really lucky. Anyway, you also mine a lot of cobble. So, you make a lot of furnaces, go and build, or mine, or do something until night. Then you smelt all of it, and sleep. Next morning, you wake up, all of it is smelted. Waaaay too OP.
Also, it is vague.

*double face palm* Adding something to a suggestion DOES NOT make it a wishlist, if the ideas were completely unrelated then yes. That's like saying a wildlife overhaul suggestion should have to make a new topic for every single new mob and item it suggests to add, even though they all fit together.
More so, I was unclear with my post. I wasn't suggesting that the ability for mobs to wake you up should be added, I was pointing out that this possibilty already rose up from the original suggestion. Mobs can already knock you out of a bed if they can get to it before you fall asleep. So Naju isn't really adding to to suggestion but more pointing out that this will be a possibilty with it.
*triple facepalm* Please do not give out false information. If there is more then one idea in a thread, it is a wishlist (and against the rules) unless the ideas are very, very closely related.

I'm pointing out sleeping mechanics, and they all are closely related with each other.
The idea of hostile mobs attacking you is because time passes, those spawn, and wake you up.
And the idea of the time progressing while you're sleeping is, I believe, the main idea of this topic, isn't it?

It sort of it depends. If the idea was about furnaces going faster while sleeping, then put the other idea in, it is a wishlist. But if you originally made it a suggestion for anything that happens while you are asleep, it isn't a wishlist. But if it is about things that happen when you are asleep, I think that you should either add more ideas into it, or just make these two separate threads. It wouldn't be that hard, it would take the risk away.

Thing is, it is about one idea. Time progressing.
You may think that everything else are more ideas, different ones... but no, they aren't.
They are details about the main idea, and I wrote them because the rules tell you to do so.
My suggestion is a better sleeping mechanics.

*face palm*. You realize that by adding that, you just made it a wishlist, which is against the rules.
