Wolves are weak but spawn in large mobs. They stay during the day and attack pigs, cow, and sheep. If you feed them 5 they will not attack you. If you feed them 10 they will follow you. If you feed them 20 they will attack enemies (expect other wolves) for you. You feed a wolf be left clicking them with . Wolves
attacks are only as strong as you fist and Wolves have little heath, but are as fast as a Horse (see my post Horse http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19975).

It sort of seems your assuming that your horse idea would be implemented, what with "but are as fast as a Horse".
Also, I'm pretty sure a horse can outrun a wolf. Not 100% on that one, though.
Now, for wolves, those meatcounts are way too high for the people who spend most time inside during the day, then go out at night for gunpowder.
Then there's the fact that to get the entire pack, lets assume you find seven.
5x7=35
To get them to leave you alone that's way too much.
What if you want the whole pack of seven to follow you?
10x70=70
Ouch, harsh. Seeing as you can only carry 36 items, you can't have the whole pack of seven follow you.
No big loss right?
But you can't even have two wolves following you without needing to gather more
Also, wolves fight other wolves for territory and food, I think if a minecraftian gave them 20 massive pieces of pork(equip it and look at your character with F5 @[email protected]) They'd turn on just about anything that go within ten paces of them.

If you spend most of the time inside during the day, why do you need a wolf? I could also say that 24 iron for a full set of armour is way too high for people who don't mine. Any argument along the lines of "That resource is too expensive for people who don't harvest it" is flawed. If you want a wolf, then you would need to increase your pork gathering, just like if you want iron(or diamond) armour, you have to increase your mining.

But armor is a thing you only buy once. You must feed wolves once in a while. It may only be useful for scavengers and pure hunters, people that kill mobs all day and all night long, only returning to their base once they need more torches, or maybe not at all. Still, these people need a sword and armor, so unless they'll play on SMP and ask for other people to trade them metal for mob-drops they don't stand a chance.
Armour wears out. Fairly quickly if it is actually being used to reduce damage. It is not a one-time purchase. The cost may be a bit high, but the reasons you were giving are very poor.
