Explosions are a great cinematic, however I have three suggestions to make them even more.
1. When an explosion goes off via TNT or Firework there will be a brief flash of light, an explosions light level will be that of a torch, however smaller explosion like from creepers or Ghast projectiles will have less of a light level. (if you are still wondering what I am talking about, go into a really dark cave on minecraft and right click its stone walls (not the floor) with a flint an steel, then you'll understand what I mean by brief flash of light)
2. When an explosion goes off, stone an dirt blocks just out of it's reach will get an animation of their bits falling off of them as a particle effect with a sound similar to sand falling on paper, this imitates a cave in or at least that uneasy feeling of it happening when underground in tunnels.
3. When within a 10 block radius of an explosion from a TNT or Firework, your screen will shake a tad, however the effect radius will be smaller with smaller explosion like from a creeper or Ghast projectile.
This is an optional thing which can be set on or off in the settings (this is so because these suggestions will cause unwanted lag).
Those are my three suggestions to make explosions more cinematic.
Explosives are not a force to be reckoned with, and this will make it more apparent.
Explosions are a great cinematic, however I have three suggestions to make them even more. Sounds a bit lag bearing...
1. When an explosion goes off via TNT or Firework there will be a brief flash of light, an explosions light level will be that of a torch, however smaller explosion like from creepers or Ghast projectiles will have less of a light level. (if you are still wondering what I am talking about, go into a really dark cave on minecraft and right click its stone walls (not the floor) with a flint an steel, then you'll understand what I mean by brief flash of light) That could cause some serious lag, especially with huge TNT explosions. There must be an option that can disable this.
2. When an explosion goes off, stone an dirt blocks just out of it's reach will get an animation of their bits falling off of them as a particle effect with a sound similar to sand falling on paper, this imitates a cave in or at least that uneasy feeling of it happening when underground in tunnels. So, would this be like the same effect if the block was breaking, but it doesn't break?
3. When within a 10 block radius of an explosion from a TNT or Firework, your screen will shake a tad, however the effect radius will be smaller with smaller explosion like from a creeper or Ghast projectile. Why not just make it that the effect radius is weaker the further you are, based on a percentage-based index of how far away you are from the explosion. For example; let's say the explosion has a radius of 4, if you are more than 8 blocks away from it, then the screen won't shake. You get knocked back anyway, so I don't really see the need for this.

No support. First of all, lag is an issue with some people. Also, I am a fan of the classic minecraft explosion. No support.
I agree that it would cause a bit of lag, but things like this could easily be controlled.
I don't really know, I really don't care either way, if this is implemented or not. However, I don't really see the point of this, seems a bit too advanced. No support!
I agree this is a lot of lag, but if the default way was off and you could turn it on, I think it could work for those people with high-end computers. Meanwhile, I think Minecraft explosions on my computer are laggy enough without this. Semi-support
due to the lag I suppose it should be an option for the computers that can handle it.
(I knew it would cause more but I never knew how much, but parentally from these fine gents, it is to much)
Therefore I'm updating the post by turning it into an option.
Thank you for the feed back, now just tell me if this change is acceptable.
It is okay as an option, but I would prefer it if it was just made into a mod. This is purely an aesthetic change that will affect performance so it makes more sense to be released alongside things like the Shader mod.

I have a computer that can handle detailed explosions, and I would probably turn it on when I'm doing TNT minigames. There is no problem implementing it as long as it is an option.
Support, but only on fancy graphic because laggy computers (lime mine)
I think it should be an option, not just fancy. Because, though my computer isn't really old, it is sort of slow. And though I can handle fancy graphics, I probably wouldn't be able to do this without lagging.

Yeah, kinda like how clouds get their own sort of thing.
Maybe it would be something like a "Fancy Explosions" setting.
Yeah, I know that it will cause lag. I just thing that mapmakers could make use of this, and I think it would look very nice.
But, that laggy? Like Jungle biome lag or infinite TNT explosion lag?
For map making, I can imagine an explosion happening above ground, then you'll get the screen shake and particle bits falling down from the roof, which would be cool for map makers probably trying to imitate a world war 2 scene or something

I'm back from my hibernation. Most likely gone so don't pm me.

I'm guessing you have a good computer? Because if you don't, this will be very laggy.
