Something that has always bothered me is why caves (and ravines) can't be put in Superflat worlds, and in particular, with options to change how they generate. First, here are a couple screenshots that show that it is possible to have caves and ravines in a Superflat world, which does require modifying the current cave generator, perhaps making a separate one for Superflat, but it isn't that hard to change it:
Now, to configure them, you would enable them by adding in "cave" and "ravine" tags, as with other structures (generate structures must also be on), and optionally specify size and chance; for example, here is how the preset for "Cavers' Dream" might look like:
To change size and/or chance, you just add parameters like you do for other options; for example:
cave(size=10 chance=100)
Ravines would only have chance, with defaults being used if they aren't specified. Note that if 1.7 cave generation is used for the default generation Cavers' Dream should be modified to have a higher size, similar to the old 1.6.4 and earlier generation, since it should be as its name suggests.
Also, as I suggested before (for cave generation), we should be also able to use superflat presets for normal worlds (default, amplified, large biomes); of course, only the stuff that changes structures (excluding the layers). In this case, caves would be enabled by default with the default parameters; to disable them, use cave/ravine(chance=0).
Just set preset on Miners Dream, I think that one has caves.
No it doesn't, all it does is make the ground much deeper than usual. Not only that, to make it really useful ores should be made to generate at higher altitudes to make it worthwhile (what's the point of 230 layers of stone if iron only occurs below y=64, and even coal only occurs in about half the depth). That's a topic for another suggestion though (to enable custom ore amounts and ranges).
Isn't it called Superflat for a reason?
No support....
So then you think that villages, abandoned mineshafts, and strongholds should also be removed? Superflat is all about customizing a world the way you want it, without having to hack the game. I was hoping that that I made it clear enough that caves were entirely OPTIONAL, just as you can make a Superflat world that has nothing but endless grass, as you seem to think.
I mean, seriously, it is way past time that we were able to change all aspects of the game to our liking, and not just in Superflat, but for normal worlds. Just because you seem to hate caves so much doesn't mean that others do. Wouldn't you just love to be able to turn them off?
Can't you just use MCEdit to make a flat world with caves and such? Superflat worlds are there for people who want to built up on the surface.

Superflat is also used for survival worlds; otherwise, as I pointed out before, there wouldn't be much point to have all of the other usual structures; this is also why they have different presets, including one intended to mimic the Overworld - but lacking caves.

I can picture it. You're running in the wilderness carefree, filled with joy. Excited to explore this seemingly empty land. And then, whilst your eyes are shut, you didn't notice that a ravine was present. You fall into it. You plummet to the bottom, remembering you found a water bucket in the past village. You manage to place it on the ground before you land. You look up, trying to think of a way to get back to the surface.
It sure sounds like a pretty good idea. Adds a bit more adventure to it.
Yeah. Have you even ever played superflat? You can generate structures like villages and strongholds, like a lot of people are saying. If you can turn them on and off, I think caves and ravines would be really good. Also, how could you not notice a massive ravine/cave in the middle of nowhere? I say superflat worlds should be even more customizable, so yes, Support.
It is an option; only if you add in "cave" or "ravine" will it generate them, just as you need to add in tags for other structures in order for them to generate; I mentioned that in my post: "you would enable them by adding in "cave" and "ravine" tags, as with other structures".
They could also add in a new Superflat preset, appropriately named "Caver's Dream", similar to Tunneler's Dream but with caves present (the ground height should also be lower, say 128 blocks, or enable us to adjust the ranges of ores (e.g. coal(20 0 128), which makes 20 veins between 0 and 128, as it currently does) since I don't think there's a point in having 230+ blocks when even coal only generates in half of that).
Also, I was wondering what people think of my other suggestion, which I linked to, being able to use Superflat customization in a normal world (just the structures and caves; it'd be nice to only have some structures instead of a global structures on/off like right now).
I agree with this; it is called superflat for a reason and this would kind of defeat the purpose of it.

The top will still be flat (geez, just look at the pic : P), he's only talking about adding caves, ore, an such underneath.
You'll have my Full Support on two conditions!
One - There has to be trees so you can at least start off with a wooden pickaxe.
Two - This would not replace the regular super flat world (As in it will be a separate option).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Saying people could just get a mod/plugin isn't a valid reason not to support.
